ooh we’re concepting? im sorry you’re having a rough day :( lately i’ve been thinking a lot about Ethan falling in love w a single mom of a kinda young kid (like 5/6) and she just melts him completely, and how he and Y/N would react the first time the little girl called him dad out of the blue

Lets say that you’ve been together for 3 years, and your little one is 5. That would mean that Ethan has been there for your son longer than his actual father.

You didn’t have a relationship with his father, it was a one night stand & he had given up all parental rights before you gave birth. You were prepared to dedicate your life to your son, giving everything you had to up for him, including your love life.

Ethan had walked into your lives at the perfect time. You had been at the beach, having some bonding time and all your son wanted to do was float on the waves like two men were doing.

Him and Grayson were just getting out of the water when a little boy came up to them & started to talk to them like he’d known them their whole lives.

“Wanna see my sand castle?”

Three years later & the boys haven’t left your side. Ethan had loved your son like his own, accepted him like his own & it made you fall in love with him even more.

It was early in the morning on a crisp fall day, you three were eating breakfast together before you both had to go to work & your son had school. Both the boys were not morning people, so you had to be the one to get the ball rolling in the morning.

You were just collecting the dirty dishes on the table to put into the dishwasher while Ethan was talking to him about after school activities.

“I’m gonna pick you up today and then we’re gonna go and get you what you need for your first lacrosse practice, sound good bud?” Your son was just nodding his head, face plastered against the table on the virge of sleep.

“Alright honey, go brush your teeth & then we’ll leave.” He for up sluggishly and dragged his feet before stopping at the entrance of the kitchen.

“Can dad drive me today?” You froze as you were finishing up the last plate, eyes shooting to Ethan. He was looking to your son with all the love & adoration in his eyes. You felt like you could cry, the word had flowed so effortlessly out of his mouth like he’d been saying it for his whole life.

Ethan nodded gently, a small smiling gracing his features. “Yeah, bud. Yeah I’ll drive you.”

The sun was shining brightly and the light came into her room. This was the first sunny day in a week, but even that couldn't stop her from thinking about what happened yesterday. She narrowed her eyes in an attempt to expel the memory from inside of her, however, it wasn't that simple. Her chest was heavy and ached as if someone were shoving a knife and moving around. It was as if IShe was under water submerged in everything around except her feelings. Y/n finally opened her eyes when heard the massive wooden door that decorated her room open.

- Hey. - Grayson spoke softly as if he was afraid of her reaction. He sat on the end of the bed and intertwined their fingers.

- What are you doing here?- She asked, wrinkling her forehead. He smiled making his dimple jump across his tanned face.

- For fucks sake! I am your best friend I am always here. - He rolled his eyes as if it was obvious.

- I meant that you should be getting ready for school, asshole - She replied using her free hand to slap his shoulder.

- We should be getting ready to school. - He pointed at her and she took a deep breath. - Come on Y / N ... You missed three days already. I'm not going to let you get fucked over an asshole. - Grayson completed getting redder with every word that comes out of his mouth.

- He cheated on me, Gray. In from off everyone at school and honestly I don't want to have to face the looks of pity and gossip. -She let go of her hand to put a lock of hair behind her ear.

- I know it is not easy, but this is not the Y / N that I know. My best friend doesn't care about the opinion of others and considers herself self-sufficient. Where is she? The one that cheers my days and that hates my twin brother? I think even he misses having no one to fight. - We laughed. Gray opened his strong arms and I snuggled between them. - You know I will never let anything bad happen to you. If someone lets out a joke, I'll do something. Mike doesn't deserve you to feel that way about him. - The name of her ex made her tighten the hug even more. It was going to be a long day.

One thing you you thought Ethan Dolan would know about you by now is that you’re not a doormat. You were never one to sit around for someone until they decided that you were worthy of their time. Unfortunately that’s what it felt like he had expected of you.

You’d known the twins for a number of years now, meeting them not long after their move to LA. Things were great in the beginning, you had helped them acclimate to the area, showed them your favorite spots to eat, took them on some adventures, it was fun.

You for sure had a crush on Ethan, it was obvious. You think that Grayson knew too, because he’d always send you knowing glances and leave the room to get something when it was just the three of you.

Nothing ever came from it though, you were sure that Ethan didn’t feel the same. After about four years of rejecting every guy that showed the slightest bit of interest in you, hoping that by some miracle that he would come to you confessing his feelings, you decided you had to move on. You couldn’t waste your life away waiting for something that very well might not ever come.

So you distanced yourself from the twins, not that it mattered very much anyways. Ethan had gotten caught up in a girl and left you in the dust. Grayson tried to keep in touch but it was hard on you both, so you just decided to be the one to cut ties. You hadn’t spoke to either of them in about a year until you had gotten a text from a random number last week.

That’s how you ended up at the beach with a coffee in your hand, sitting next to Ethan as he confessed his feelings for you. You felt your throat tighten and your hands start to sweat. You were angry.

“Are you being serious right now?” You turn to look at him only to find him already staring at you. “This must be a fucking joke.” Laughing at the irony of this whole situation, you took a big gulp of your coffee.

“I don’t understand what you mean?” Ethan had a look of confusion written all over his face, which made you even angrier. How could he have been so oblivious?

“Ethan, I’ve literally liked you for as long as I can remember. I left so many hints and you never caught them. I was there for you since you first moved here, I dropped everything whenever you called, even if you’d been ignoring me for some other girl, it didn’t matter. I would’ve done anything for you for so long.” You shook your head.

“I waited for you for years before I finally found someone who won’t abandon me like you did, and now you come back and think we could be together again?” There were a few tears that escaped, trailing down your cheek as you looked at him, waiting for a response.

“Y/N, I’m sorry, I didn’t know-” You scoffed, interrupting him.

“Of course you didn’t know. But would that have made a difference anyways? I cried over yoh so much for the past I don’t even know how long. I spent hours staring at my phone, waiting for you to text me something, anything! Every time you ditched me for some other girl and didn’t speak to me for days until you were done with her and decided that you had time for me, I would be there in an instant.”

“If this were a year ago, hell even six months ago, I would’ve jumped at a chance to be with you,” You shook your head, voice wavering at your words. “Not now though. I have someone in my life.”

“So that’s it then, I don’t get a shot?”

“You had your shot, you’ve had countless shots and you blew them all. I’d like to say I’m sorry but I’m really not Ethan. You broke me and I waited for you to come pick up the pieces that you left on the ground, but you never did. Not until after I’ve managed to fix them up myself. I found someone else who loves me, he loves the cracks that you left in me. He accepts me for my faults and doesn’t make me feel small or insignificant. He’s there for me and gives me constant reminders of his love. He’s doing the things you never did.”

There was a thick silence after you finished. The air around you was dense with sadness and pain. You didn’t know what else to do after you had said your peace, so you walked away leaving your words to linger around in Ethan’s mind for the years to come.
