"Fool! Did you really think I would pay you for the Totem? Kill the (player's race)!"
--King Eadwyre immediately betraying you if you give him the Totem of Tiber Septim, after promising to beat and price that Akorithi or Gothryd offer you. Notably, Akorithi and Gothryd will actually give you 100,000 or 10,000 gold if you bring it to them. In fact, out of all the candidates for the Totem (Akorithi, Eadwyre, Gortwog, Gothryd, the King of Worms, the Underking, Uriel Septim VII), Eadwyre is the only one who will betray you.

This proved to be very problematic for Eadwyre's child from his first marriage, Elysana, who had to to now compete with the infamous Hlaalu Helseth in a deadly game to be heir. After Eadwyre's death, Elysana successfully secured her father's throne, and shortly thereafter banished her stepfamily from her kingdom.
"If it weren't for that bitch queen and her brats, I would and could be patient. Never trust a dark elf the old saying goes, for you cannot read truth in their eyes."
--From Lord Woodborne's diary, in a passage where he confesses to the murder of King Lysandus; his plots against King Eadwyre, Queen Barenziah, and her children; and mentions a desire for revenge against Gortwog and the Orcish people.
