Today after choir rehearsal, we spotted some young eagle owls on the roof!!! (Which makes me very happy because I LOVE birds and owls especially!)

Sound on because literally the whole choir goes AAAAAaaaaaawwwww in perfect unison and then I go ahHaHA!!

I'm so happy!!! Look!!!

friend who is a beekeeper phoned that a spotted eagle owl chick was under his bakkie (truck), at a farm that is luckily close by.

being out of the nest at this age is normal, but the farm owners were quite distressed about it, as the chick had been on the ground for two days, while the sibling was still in the nest.

no signs of illness or injury, & only very minimal dehydration, so i just popped it back into the nest, making sure to not spook the sibling, & mimicking the parents to ensure they stayed nearby.

& on my way to this rescue, i got pulled over because the cops thought i was A LITERAL CHILD.

just a normal day around here, for your local little bird lady.

Duphon is an owl-like creature found in the Hautes-Alpes region of France. Duphon is described as an Eagle-Owl usually seen wearing clothes and carrying a weapon of some kind. Duphon is said pull pranks on humans like braiding the tails of horses and pinching women. Duphon was first seen in 1820 by a baron named  Jean Charles François de Ladoucette and he wrote about it in his book called “Histoire, antiquités, usages, dialectes des Hautes-Alpes”. The town of Serres has an alleged Duphon lair known as Trou du Duphon  which translates to “The Duphon’s Hole”.  People believe that the origins of Duphon come from people seeing a population of Eurasian Eagle-Owls and creating myths about them due to their size.
