Tonight, two for one - Mini review of both Lizzie's hedgehog book and Duchess's swan book! The reason for this is simple: both books are pretty but pointless.
Both books remind me of Momo's story in the ATLA episode "Tales of Ba-Sing-Se" - a nice episode to flesh out the world, but it's not the focus. Both the Shuffle and Pirouette books choose to have the animals' POVs and follow their adventures. This means there's no particular insight into the cast, other than their owners.
In Shuffle's book, I enjoyed the Wonderland lore a bit, where hedgehogs are apparently sentient, employed animals, and the bits about Lizzie and her mother, but the plot about her being "poisoned" by Ginger is pointless.
The Pirouette book has more plot, featuring the talent show about the birds, but I can't say it gave me any particular insight on Duchess. I would have understood if her win lead her to move on from Daring, but that's not the case. Also: When you drag out a story arc for this long, it means the story wants you to believe in the couple at least a little. That's why, despite all the rejections, Hopper continues to have a crush on Briar, but Sparrow is dismissed by Holly within a book. On NTV, Duchess x Daring works from the perspective of unrequited love, but if she doesn't actually get over him, I think the story wants us to ship them a little. But let's face it - no one likes them! Daring doesn't even know her name, and Duchess is attracted to him just because he's hot.
That said, verdict - they probably would have made excellent webisodes, but for the book series, they fall flat.

Book Review: The Secret Diary of Apple White by Heather Alexander
I'm a big fan of most Ever After High books, so when I saw this one, I pre-ordered it right away. Got it straight from Amazon on release day, as usual. The cover is beautiful, very nicely designed. I cracked it open the day I got it! Then, I read the first few pages... Apple White sounds delusional! So, at first I thought this book was a little dumb. I stuck a bookmark in it and put it to the side for a couple weeks. Today, I picked it up again, and after I got through the first few pages of Apple White's delusional sweetness, I was finally drawn into the story. And it was a good story! Heather Alexander seems to look at Ever After High through more rose-colored glasses than other authors, but she's still a very good writer. It was a really good read. I was proud to put it on my bookshelf after finishing it. I will keep this one for a long time.
Everyone thinks Dexter is good with the spear (it's Darling using his armor in training), and at the end of the book, it's Dexter who fights Darling and comes in second. But as far as the others are concerned, Dexter isn't just good with the spear, he's one of the best.
The boy doesn't know how to use a spear because nobody taught him, and everyone thinks he does.
I love that Raven will always choose the path of Peace unless you insult her father then get ready to die
Evil Queen:_You are totally dissappointing_ Good King:_disappointed?! I asked you to show me your laboratory in the hope that the entrance would be through a roller coaster AND NOTHING_
«Meeshell pondered this news. Ever After High? Her father often spoke of the school he’d attended. He’d loved it. She remembered many bedtime stories about his days fighting dragons in Dragon-Slaying class and climbing towers in Hero Training class. How he’d been co-president of the student body, and captain of the Track and Shield team. The world above the waves was so very different. For Meeshell and her Merfriends, school studies focused on learning about the other creatures that inhabited the sea. There were no class presidents or clubs or teams. Her people considered themselves the guardians of the waters, and thus, taking care of other creatures was of the utmost importance.»
