EAH Holidays: Movela
(This is a part of my original worldbuilding for EAH, and my holiday series for that saga)
Many mountains in the Nani Mountains each have their own version of a holiday called Movela, which in Lumina means "calling". However, the full name of the holiday varies from mountain to mountain.
Movela is a holiday in which the people of a mountain will make a large tribute of some kind to their mountain's guardian spirit. The leader (or leaders) of the mountain will then perform a ritual of some sort that will supposedly summon the spirit, which will then use its magic to create a magic shield around the mountain that will protect them during the winter and ensure their mountain will survive that year. Each mountain has its own unique version of this tradition, but NopeRope will use Mulapua as an example.
On Mulapua, the tribute used is a large pile of root vegetables, mainly potatoes. Everyone will gather outside and stand in a large crowd in front of the pile, and when it is time for the beginning of the ritual ceremony, all will start humming an ancient song meant to help call the guardian spirit. Then, the king/queen will come out and light a special saga incense stick, which will set in a special ritual bowl.
The king/queen (or heir to the throne, depending on whether or not they have come of age and are able to do this), wearing tradition ritual garment, will then begin a ceremonial dance, while a mage of some sort will begin chanting. A healthy mountain cow (similar to a highland cow, but on Mulapua) will also be brought out during the ritual, but will simply be milked and the milk will be involved in the ritual.
The mage will pour the milk into the ritual bowl and use a special spell on it. As soon as the ceremonial dance ends, the king/queen will come over to the bowl (which will be right in front of the tribute pile), dip their hands in it, raise their arms up to the sky, and shout "Cara, alum movela nai unkaiwa!" which means "Cara (the name of their guardian spirit), we call your soul!"
Wind will begin blowing furiously, blowing the windchimes (which will be hung everywhere before the ceremony), and the tribute pile will then disintegrate up into the sky. The sky will flash for a moment, before everything becomes suddenly very peaceful. That is the end of the ceremony.
Everyone will often go home and party, and if they are able to, the royal family will host a ball which anyone is invited to.
This is just one of the multiple variations of this tradition, but it does capture some of the concepts.
EAH Holidays: The Shapeshifter Festival
I’ve been working on some certain kinds of lore stuff lately, mainly holidays, and I decided I’m gonna make some posts for some of those holidays! The first one is a post on an autumn holiday (like Halloween but also not at all like Halloween). The Shapeshifter Festival!
Every friend group should include: a bimbo (Poppy R.), a mean bisexual (Miriam), an even meaner lesbian (Freedom Silkie), she/theys (Qiang?) and he/theys (Flint and Spire), a token straight that’s on thin ice (Moose), an astrology bitch who has everyone’s birth charts memorized (Legumes), and a short king (Flint)
