SOLD! Another late sale from Easterly Artists' exhibition #eamaking "Making Our Mark", which ended last week at @ferini_art_gallery the Ferini Gallery in Pakefield. This is "Gossips on an English Beach" (digital print) by @easterlyartists member @rosalindbieber2 Rosalind Bieber. Some years ago, Ros switched to using a computer and headset: at first, she struggles with them but now finds them a delight. She comments: “The marks were so different from what’s possible with conventional painting materials. One could be playful and delicate, and it led me into a more abstract way of working. IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT (with apologies to REM) Perhaps that's a *slight* exaggeration, but it IS the final day of Easterly Artists' exhibition #eamaking "Making Our Mark", meaning today is your LAST CHANCE TO SEE work by some of East Suffolk's finest artists and – who knows? – maybe even snap up a bargain. Easterly Artists exists to support and promote the work of artists living or working within 20 miles of Ness Point (the most Easterly part of the UK) so, in keeping with that theme, here's an extract from a tiny hand-made book "The Suffolk Coast" (digital images hand-finished in gold gouache, ink hand-written text), by @easterlyartists member @thedawdlingday Mandy Walden. The work traces a journey along that coast, in which each illustration is embellished by hand with gold paint. Hand-made books are a recent development in Mandy's work – something which may become an obsession! "Unbroken Rhythm" by @easterlyartists member @suffolk_dorodango Mark Ross. Mark is a Lowestoft-based artist working with natural materials to create organic 2D and 3D pieces. He works primarily with soils, incorporating locally sourced wood and found objects collected while walking. Working in an investigative and environmentally conscious way he combines scientific technique with a traditional Japanese art process: Dorodango.  The outcomes blend these elements to create unique objects showing the beauty and complexity of an often-overlooked component of the ecosystem, directing the viewer to reflect on our relationship with Nature and the past. Happily, that means you still have all weekend to make your way across town (or county) to @ferini_art_gallery the Ferini Gallery, 27 All Saints Road, Pakefield NR33 0JL to see how 23 of East Suffolk's most versatile artists respond to the theme of "Making Our Mark". Whet your appetite on this screenprint "Screenplay 11" by @easterlyartists member @cut_editions Ni Gooding. Ni uses paper stencils applied directly to an open screen. The act of placing the print in a different position for each “pull” results in images which, although made of the same elements and interventions, are all different and therefore unique. These flimsy, unstable paper stencils are short-lived – but because of this instability, they possess a sense of spontaneity and immediacy. Ni comments: "It's fast, versatile and exciting, and you can never be sure what you're going to get. It's a dialogue between the print and the maker: each “move” is informed by what preceded it and, in turn, determines what succeeds it. If you can say “l like this image” or “this works for me” – or it has a presence or power or simply evokes a positive emotional response – then the piece goes some way to being successful."
