Artful Escape Room
I locked myself away for centuries. Meeting other sentients required preparation and recovery, so much time in which I couldn’t create anything. Of course I missed the friendly interactions, but as soon as my mind had found peace in its solitude, it started coming up with all the solutions I needed. Every night I would sit in a deckchair and view what my ever-improving drones had filmed of the world outdoors. I never had to leave my lab to discover the changes in clothes, in families, in species. I never had to miss how they would smile at the books I had written, how they marvelled at the mystery of the author’s identity; how they proudly showed my inventions to the visitors from other planets. I patted myself on the back for the wise choice I’d made so very long ago—and yet there came a point when a high-res projection of the night sky was no longer enough. I needed to remember the scent of fresh air, the feeling of grass under my feet, the sound of another living creature’s voice. To be praised for the results of my isolation in person.
If only I could find the way out of my safe, comfortable hermitage.

Grass and dried leaves are projected on the floor and the rounded ceiling, and the painting Green Park, London by Claude Monet is projected on the walls. It depicts people in black clothes, some of them with top hats, as well as grass, trees, and the 19th-century London skyline in the background.]
