When Arthur meets Eames patrolling his new beat for the first time it's not exactly smooth, he's a drug dealer and scumbag, but there's something about him... They meet again at the club and hook up, but Eames wants it to end there.  Eames follows his orders and Arthur is on the trail of a killer and thinks it might Eames.  It wasn't but Arthur's people are VERY dangerous, and when Arthur's caught snooping, he's taken hostage.  Eames has no choice but to blow his deep cover and go rescue Arthur.

arthur and eames organization headcanons

contrary to popular belief, arthur is actually incredibly messy and disorganized at home and in his personal life because hes great at comparmentalizing and that means all the order and neatness stays at work. hes got his little moleskins but those notes are incomprehensible to anyone but him. he's been living out of his suitcase and hotels while following cobb around so he actually likes his home to feel homely and not another sterile impersonal hotel room. he is obsessive about having all the information but that means he has to go through a lot of paperwork and needs like 5 different desks stacked with notes, maps, computers, and boards (he loves a good board). somehow he knows where everything is even though its all a mess. the way he sees it, his mind can be neat because he dumps out all the mess to be organized in the real world. the only thing organized are outside clothes but when he gets home he just grabs a tshirt and shorts from a pile and calls it a day

eames on the other hand is a devout konmari method follower. his home and spaces are neatly organized where everything has a proper place to go. he's a forger, an artist, a schemer, and with that many hats to wear, he needs everything to be neatly cataloged. mess is absolutely counterintuitive for his process and his attention to detail means he's able to discern when anything is off from his neatly organized system. he's a planner and a creative so he actually enjoys cleaning and organizing. he has a forging space and of course a beautiful vanity with mirrors from all angles (to see all corners and exits of the rooms too of course), a work out area, all his books are carefully arranged by author and genre, his art studio space has tiny little drawers where all materials are stored properly so he doesn't have to waste time finding anything. he travels light because he knows exactly what he needs. he does like to buy weird trinkets from all his travels for funsies, but they're all carefully curated to fit his space. at heart, he likes being confident in his own home and being assured that its made for him and that everything has a purpose. his lazy light hearted attitude in dreamsharing in itself is just another act because it gets people to underestimate his abilities which has always benefited him since people will put their guard down around him.

this of course means eames is absolutely aghast at the state of arthur's home when he first visits (though he's kind about it...maybe), and arthur is befuddled because obviously his place could not be as incomprehensible of a mess as someone like eames' would be (hes wrong) and they have to have a Talk because eames actually for the first 4 months of their relationship thought arthur was insulting him by saying he brought him home and still witholding his actual house from him still and keeps asking "when are you goin to bring me to your REAL house though"

arthur and eames were married, newlyweds, but it quickly fell apart both because the marriage was supposed to be the beginning of their retirement-or at the very least some semblance of stability and play at househusbands, but it did not survive mal’s death.

mal was how they met so it makes sense that shes the reason they fell apart too; she’s the catalyst, the one that haunts that whole family and later that team

arthur chose family over eames; he chose cobb and his sister’s children. and eames chose to run too, because marriage is one thing but a whole family is another and it was all happening too fast and he could not play uncle and husband while he grieved too, with children who looked like mal asking him where their mother went.

he panics when arthur reveals they might have to become the kids main guardians if something happens to cobb. he signed up for a quick and easy marriage, not all of this and so quick too. he buckles and arthur calls him a coward and thats the end of the marriage

its a handful of years before they see each other again and at most ariadne thinks theyre exes with the way they argue and bicker and protect each other during the fischer job. it never crosses her mind that were married and divorced once already until yusuf tells her while drunk that eames went to hide in mombasa after a bitter divorce and arthur wears a wedding ring outside of jobs (a “fake” to deter interested parties but it looks too worn to be fake and has an engraving on the inside that looks too personal)

they never get married again even after they get back together bc its not good practice for their profession, and they realize they’ll be together in it forever anyways. marriage contracts are for a civilian life, and after Inception they admit they cant ever go back to that the way cobb can
