All that he missed
My dad would have turned 100 yesterday.
Not that he came close. Emphysema, the result of heavy smoking on top of his life-long tendency to roll the dice, killed him in 1992, one week before his 70th birthday.
Think of all the family commotion he missed. Think of all the lost opportunities to crack wise. or laugh at some silly TV comedian, or tell a whopper, or give a kid a couple of bucks for no particular reason, or bluff a big poker pot, holding nothing but his breath. (I can hear him saying “God hates a coward,” employing reverse psychology).
Think of all the rituals of famliness he could have soaked up, gladly shedding his trademark sentimental tears, if he had lived 20 years longer, or even 10: weddings and births; graduations and anniversaries; family shindigs, deer-camp poker games ... even funerals, where he became the king of gallows humor.
Meanwhile, grandson Colin turns 10 today. So goes the circle of life ...
(The photo, circa late-1970s, shows my dad, John Benjamin Sr., with two lunker northern pike pulled from the murky waters of Fletcher’s floodwater, in northern Michigan, where he and my mother, who loved to fish as much as anybody (male or female) found their little retirement paradise.)

Milk and dairy products are usually known as healthy and beneficial - the truth is the absolute opposite. Milk is poisonous and lead to several health issues until death. Of course, everybody reacts different and everybody will have different symptoms but there was enough research to show the deadly truth.
"What is an "instant" death anyway? How long is an instant? Is it one second? Ten? The pain of those seconds must have been awful as her heart burst and her lungs collapsed and there was no air and no blood to her brain and only raw panic. What the hell is instant? Nothing is instant. Instant rice takes five minutes, instant pudding an hour. I doubt that an instant of blinding pain feels particularly instantaneous."
My brother, Aaron, died in a car accident in 2015 and today was his birthday. He made me who I am today and it would make me unbelievably happy to know he's present in people's minds. If it doesn't take too much time, telling him happy birthday on this post would make a stranger smile :)
i have to go to the store but now i’m just gonna be thinking about sitting with chan in a castle 🙇🏽♀️
“But the righteous man, though he die early, will be at rest. For old age is not honored for length of time, nor measured by number of years; but understanding is gray hair for men, and a blameless life is ripe old age. There was one who pleased God and was loved by him, He was caught up lest evil change his understanding or guile deceive his soul. For the fascination of wickedness obscures what is good, and roving desire perverts the innocent mind. Being perfected in a short time, he fulfilled long years; for his soul was pleasing to the Lord, therefore he took him quickly from the midst of wickedness. Yet the peoples saw and did not understand, nor take such a thing to heart, that God’s grace and mercy are with his elect, and he watches over his holy ones.”
~Wisdom of Solomon 4:7-15
Important that this is getting recognition.

The Young Passing of Susanna Jane Rothwell James First Wife of Alfred James Clayton
I don’t pick things to write about. Random archive newspaper clippings interest me and away I go. The way the obituary was written intrigued me— and low and behold after I had nearly finished this piece I realized this was Alfred James’ first very very brief marriage. ALFRED JAMES second wife after she died Read – Who was Jennie K Robertson James? Another Call to Document Were it not for the…
