venus  is  a  sight  for  sore  eyes  as  she  walks  out  of  her  office  doors,  julian  leaning  against  the  hood  of  his  car  (  in  an  attempt  to  look  suave  )  with  a  bouquet  of  flowers  held  in  his  hands.  he's  spent  the  entire  day  prepping,  texting  her  only  on  his  “lunch  break”  to  let  her  know  he'd  be  picking  her  up  from  work  today.  her  bags  are  packed  and  in  his  trunk,  courtesy  of  maria,  and  he's  certain  he  has  almost  everything  under  control.  her  car  is  a  problem  he'll  figure  out  on  the  road,  but  he's  really  banking  on  longterm  parking.  pushing  himself  off  the  hood,  he  approaches  her  with  the  bouqet  extended  to  her  in  one  hand  while  the  other  reaches  out  for  hers.  “there  she  is,”  he  beams,  “I  HAVE  TWO  QUESTIONS  FOR  YOU.”

with  a  dramatic,  swooning  sigh,  beatriz  throws  herself  onto  her  bed  and  lets  herself  bounce  off  of  her  many  pillows.  rolling  swiftly  onto  her  stomach,  legs  kick  in  the  air  as  her  chin  rests  in  her  hands.  there's  a  dreamy  smile  on  her  face,  knowing  she's  keeping  the  girls  in  suspense  as  she  plays  out  her  moment.  “ladies,”  she  begins,  looking  at  each  of  them  individually.  “i  have  something  REALLY  important  to  tell  you,”  the  necklace  is  weighing  on  her  chest  like  a  million  pounds,  instinctively  reaching  for  it.  “i'm  BETHROTHED  !!”

𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠:  the  taproom,  electric  avenue.  march  12th,  2026. / @earlyblues

her  friends  would  call  her  a  FOOL  for  giving  her  shift  away  to  give  gifts  to  a  man  that  was  clear  he  didn't  want  them,  but  none  of  that  mattered  to  beatriz.  one  of  her  firm  beliefs  was  that  everyone  should  have  a  good  birthday,  whether  they  wanted  to  or  not.  after  weeks  of  searching  fragrantica  and  burner  accounts  on  multiple  fragrance  forums,  she'd  finally  sniffed  out  his  exact  cologne.  it  sat  atop  the  three  outfits  she'd  bought  him  in  a  gift  bag,  wrapped  neatly  with  a  bow.  to:  brett,  from:  bae.  scribbled  neatly  on  the  tag.  she  considered  writing  out  a  long  card,  figured  she'd  be  better  off  without  it.  driver's  mirror  is  pulled  down,  fluffing  her  hair  and  reapplying  her  lipgloss  before  she  grabs  her  keys  and  heads  out.  if  she  didn't  frequent  the  taproom  on  her  days  off,  it  might  be  strange  that  she's  walking  in,  but  she  does,  so  no  one  bats  an  eye.  she's  able  to  sneak  up  behind  him,  bag  placed  in  the  stool  next  to  him  before  her  hands  raise  to  cover  his  eyes  from  behind  in  a  move  he's  pulled  on  her  many  times  before.  "guess  whoooo  ?  "  she  asks,  tone  growing  more  sing  -  songy  with  each  second.  “happy  birthday  !!!”

an  afternoon  in  her  sunroom  with  teddy  is  exactly  what  ariella's  been  needing,  smoke  from  her  incense  wafting  through  the  room  as  she  mists  her  plants,  deep  breath  let  out  through  her  nose.  “i've  been  so  TIRED,”  she  explains,  setting  the  mister  down  on  the  shelf  before  going  to  join  teddy  on  the  couch.  “this  afternoon  will  fix  me  though,  i'm  sure  of  it,”  the  sun  beaming  down  on  them  is  a  nice  contrast  to  the  iciness  she  feels  inside,  head  lolling  over  to  teddy.  “are  we  feeling  tea  or  wine  ?”

he's a little tipsy. climbing the stairs, unsure of what kind of reaction he'll receive. but he doesn't care. despite having a lot of fun with his friends, he'd spent most of the party overly aware of her absence. left just a little earlier than he usually would. he wobbles slightly at the top step, steadies himself, then knocks. when she opens the door, he’s there with a dopey, lopsided grin. " you don't come to party, party comes to you. " he declares, lifting both hands — one holds a carefully wrapped slice of birthday cake, the other a six pack dangling from his fingers. " i brought cake. and a six pack. "
