I see a lot of takes that are like "The federation military is unambiguously heroic because the people they're fighting are fascists!" and like... after watching/reading gundam media that includes the federation choosing to utilize child soldiers with the threat of imprisonment if they say no, using refugees as human shields, refusing to punish their soldiers who go wayyy over the line, enforcing anti-homosexuality laws in the colonies, hiring out brutal mercenary groups to keep the colonies in check and using high-end military hardware to grab and deport people from occupied land, I'm starting to think that the distinction here isn't that one of these factions is fascist and one of them isn't, it's that one of them is a type of fascist that Americans are more comfortable with.
