From East Tennessee to the dark belly of the New Madrid Fault, tremors have rolled like thunder through bedrock, barely heard, but deeply felt. The earth speaks in low tones, not unlike the ghostly drawl of an old hymn echoing off empty chapel walls.

Here in the South, we know a warning when we hear it, even if it comes in a language written in stone and silence.

I am writing this from Northeast Mississippi, a place nestled between seismic zones like a lamb among sleeping giants. The East Tennessee Seismic Zone rouses itself to the east, the Wabash Valley to the north, and the New Madrid to the west, three ancient faultlines like cracks in porcelain, each pulsing with dormant wrath.

This isn’t just geology. This is ancestral.

This is spiritual.

The earth remembers.

Long before we called this land ours, long before railroad tracks and cotton fields, the bones of giants and spirits laid deep in this red soil. The tremors we feel now are not just physical, they are echoes. Echoes of memory, of energy long buried. When fault lines shift, it’s as if the veil between worlds thins, and something deeper stirs.

Birds grow erratic. Cats cry to empty corners. Dogs pace.

The low hums, the infrasounds before the shaking, inaudible to us but not to them, act like an unholy tuning fork.

That strange dread that curls under the ribs.

These aren’t just tremors.

These are omens.

A shudder in the skeleton of the world.

Some metaphysical souls say that earthquakes are signs of energetic realignment, like a soul cracking open after holding in too much grief. They represent:

And what better place than the South, rich in old blood and deeper knowing, for such a thing to unfold?

For those of us who walk barefoot on clay and speak in dreams, this means:

Whether or not a great quake comes in our lifetime is almost beside the point.

The energy is rising.

And those of us with feet on red clay and eyes on heaven, well, we can feel it humming underfoot.

The veil is thinning in the heartland.

The land is shaking off what it can no longer hold.

And we, gentle soul, must ask:

What have we been holding that must be released?

What falsehoods must crack?

What truths must rise?

What spirits must be honored?

What stories must be remembered?

May your roots run deep and your soul remain unshaken.
