I believe I asked you a little while back what practices you consider unethical. One of your answers was anything illegal, but of course laws vary from one country to the next. Are there are areas of the world where you would not buy fur from?
There are very few countries I can legally import from so illegal only refers to the US in that context, but, if given the option to legally import furs, I wouldn’t buy anything from China or South Korea. Now the whole staged videos that PeTA produced about skinning animals alive has nothing to do with it. It’s the fact that China and South Korea’s fur industries are not geared towards animal welfare and many animals are abused and suffer a great deal of pain prior to being harvested. In addition, I’ve heard tales of killing methods that I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemy, let alone these animals. Also, I found documentation of how people’s pets were stolen for the fur trade.
Basically, I wouldn’t want to order furs that don’t come from a regulated market. It’s not only the treatment of the animals, but the working conditions for the employees, and the sanitation of the pelts (or lack there of). I also prefer to buy from places that dispose of the byproducts properly and document the culling of the animals.
