Once upon a year ago, my student loans were paid in full. This was not done by my power nor was it something I had to earn. It was a gift. I cried tears of joy, gratitude, and relief. It was a tremendous weight off my shoulders. I had resigned myself to painfully slowly chipping away at this monetary behemoth stalking me, that this was just going to be something I would rigorously fight to shrink for a hefty chunk of my adult life. And yet, God had other plans for me.
Once upon two millennia ago, my punishment for sinning was paid in full. This was not done by my power nor was it something I had to earn. It was a gift. I have cried tears of joy, gratitude, and relief over this. It’s a tremendous weight off my shoulders. An unbearable burden I don’t have to endure. An eternity apart from God and all things good is not my destiny. Satan wanted me to resign to a life of sin and living in shame and guilt and hopelessness, desperately trying in vain to chip away any portion of the sorrow or grief of darkness staining my soul. And yet, God had other plans for me.
And for you. He did the same for you too.
Tetelestai - the debt has been paid in full. It is finished. This is a victory cry. God has won, and because He lives, so can we. Happy Easter!
