My Nemesis... the Buddie Cake
For those who don't know (99% of you), I make a bunny cake every Easter for my Littles. It's a tradition that started with my ex's family, and I have kept it alive for the kids.
Some years the bunny has a bowtie and they eat "him". Some years, the bunny has a hairbow and they eat "her". And some years there's no bow and it's a nonbinary bunny and they eat "them".
And, no, I don't eat the bunny cake. I don't much like cake.
Yes, I know I'm weird.
Last year, I'd just gotten on the Buddie train, and the kids were getting used to Mama ranting about her latest shipping hyperfixation.
I mentioned the "bunny" cake ahead of Easter, but the children misheard it as "Buddie" cake. And thus I promised that if Buddie went canon, I'd make them a cake.
Now, the likelihood is the same as ever. I'm an old shipper. Our ships never went canon.
So, I can enjoy the ride even if nothing ever happens.
That said, this season has a troubling amount of Easter Eggs—hello burner Twitter account leaving clues—and hints that maybe this is the one.
Now, while I think a sudden sweeping moment this week isn't outside of reality, most shows milk that stuff for the Season finale if they're going to cross a line.
And the finale airs on my birthday this year.
I can't tell you how much the children are cracking up at the possibility of the woman who famously doesn't much care for cake and/or ice cream having to make a cake the day after her birthday.
Now, I do like a couple cakes. I'm just very selective.
If you want to win me over, a slice of really good carrot cake just might do it. But only one. I can't take that much sugar.
Also, canon for you might not be canon for me. My kids and I had a long discussion on what qualifies.
And while it's a silly, silly thing to be even thinking about, it's a lovely, lovely thing.
I'm knee-deep in working too many clients—why did two jobs have to run late just as another is starting—my Separation from my not-so-great ex, caring for three incredible little people, and re-learning how to human without the weight of constant emotional manipulation and abuse.
So, yeah, a Buddie cake's a silly, silly thing. But it's a damn lovely thought.
Even if I'm not eating a bite.
