"Eastern Black racer. I found a teenage black racer in my yard. It’s picture number three right before the adult one that caught a rattle snake [admin note: below, under cut]. 🐍 I love black racers because they get rid of venomous snakes, are in the group of snakes that will stalk their prey, and I know not every wild snake is like this but the ones over the years in my yard have been chill." Under cut: photo of adult eastern racer eating a rattlesnake.

While me and Zeus were on our walk this morning we saw this deceased North American Racer (Coluber constrictor), it's likely the same one we saw the other week. 😔😟
It likely died from getting hit by a car 🙁
Rest In Peace Little Fella, you will be missed. 🙏😔
Coluber constrictor is a species of nonvenomous, colubrid snake, endemic to North America and Central America. Eleven subspecies, including the nominotypical subspecies, are recognized, which as a group are commonly referred to as the eastern racers. (Source: Wikipedia)

sweet friend i found on my walk today 🖤🐍
Found a friend while hiking today 🐍
I snatched this snake up in a field while a bunch of teenagers were walking down the trail a few yards away, then I had to try really hard to act casual while they passed by me standing there holding a very large wild snake and a plastic bag full of bones 😅
One le cranky but beautiful boi. We were showing a youth conservation group of high school kids what we do for snake research and I’m almost certain that all 15 loved it :)
Ps I know that last set is blurry but I wanted to show him striking and being cranky in sucssion and I think it’s funny :P
