Champignon Witch Episode 4 Review - The Meeting Continues
This was a frustrating episode to watch. The entire second half of the black witches’ meeting felt like it was repeating a lot. Flame Magician is fully against the idea of letting the boy live, but then the other magicians say otherwise, and it goes back and forth for a bit until the dialogue progresses. Then the part where they were trying to vote by standing on one side or the other came and I was legit worried that they were going to repeat the same thing until the spirit of the Cat Witch showed up. Gosh, I feel like some of the meeting could’ve been condensed.
Still, I’m glad that it helps establishes that some black witches are cautious while others aren’t. They still aren’t trustful towards Luna despite her overcoming her curse, but it’s mainly because the boy is of the white witch lineage and their magic prowess isn’t as powerful as a black witch’s. I do like that some of the serious tone is replaced with comedy as it alleviates the serious mood. I liked how the Beast Magician and the Insect Magician were using Flame’s fire to cook their snacks. It was cool to see that Luna was able to overcome her curse by working really hard to find a way to absorb poison into her body and let it out like a filter. She’s the only witch capable of doing this.
It turns out that there is another member of the black witch council who is absent—the Wind Magician who bailed out because he had other things to do. Because of that, Flame had to be his proxy when voting. I do wonder what the Eastern Witch’s deal is and why she just stood there. Fortunately, letting the boy live was accepted when the spirit of the late Cat Witch showed up. It turns out that she used to be a friend of Luna, but probably died due to witch hunting…which is terrifying—heck, the witches should be figuring out how to stop this instead of beefing with Luna.
The reason Luna wants him to live is because she is compassionate and doesn’t like it when someone dies. She even promises to let him become a magician so that he can learn to overcome his own curse. I like her mindset in that if she can overcome her curse, anyone else can and it doesn’t always have to result in someone’s death because that would mean, someone else would get the curse later on and it would just be an endless cycle. If a cursed youngling knew how to overcome their powers, I’d like to see how the world would be like when it’s possible.
The Insect Magician got a voice reveal! He’s voiced by Hinata Tadokoro who voiced Shiguma from Blue Lock and Isao Tsuchiya from Twilight Out of Focus. The Cat Witch is voiced by Akane Fujita who voices Sucrose in Genshin Impact. The Wind Magician is voiced by Kazuki Ura, who voiced Shiki Ichinose from Tougen Anki and Isagi from Blue Lock.
With Claude being tasked to keep tabs on Luna and the boy by the orders of the Bird Magician, I wonder how the story will be like going forth. Will there be a happy ending for all? Let me know your thoughts on this episode!
It’s been a long time since the last time I posted our magical shamanism rituals - my country have been in quarantine and lockdown for 3 months and now finally is in “ semi lockdown.” That’s why we can finally do rituals again. But still have to follow terms and conditions from our govern, including limitation of people who join. So unlike usual, now we do ritual per case - whether it means for one person or a couple or one family, with the same one problem.
