#ShankarraoPandurangPatilThorat, a resident of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, born 12 August 1906 died on 10 August 1992, was an #IndianArmy former #LieutenantGeneral who led the #EasternCommand in the lead up to the 1962 Sino-Indian War. He was born on 12 August 1906, in #Vadgaon village in the erstwhile princely state of #Kolhapur. He studied in #SPCollege, Pune and then at #SandhurstRoyalMedicalCollege and joined the #RoyalIndianArmy as a #CommissionedOfficer. During World War II, #ColonelThorat commanded #battalion -level formations #fighting against #Japaneseforces.
