ways to get closer with your deities
here are some ways i like to use to bond with my deities!
✩ write them a letter
✩ light a candle
✩ meditate or astral project and try to meet them
✩ make them some food as an offering
✩ plant some of their sacred plants
✩ sing a song for them
✩ save them a seat on the bus in case they want to join you (since i’m on a school bus I just put a corresponding crystal but if you’re on public transport I don’t think that’s always the best idea)
✩ do activities sacred to them
✩ read their myths and stories
✩ greet them in the morning and at night
✩ add to their altar
✩if you’re ‘broom closet’ you can even make one electronically
✩ make a spell jar in their honor
✩ do rituals in their honor and call upon them for help
✩ vent to them
✩ if it’s your first time contacting them, introduce yourself! tell them your name, where you’re from, likes and dislikes, favorite foods, what drew you to them, anything at all
✩ write poetry for them or make them a playlist
✩ lastly, thank them for everything they do
since SOME people don’t know how to act...
I’m a witch. I’m not crazy, I don’t think I’m ever getting a hogwarts letter or shit like that. I can’t make fire appear out of thin air or turn someone into a newt (they got better). That’s magic, I practice magick, with a k. Here’s the difference:
magic: fantasy magic, the stuff you see in Harry Potter or Sabrina the teenage witch. In real life, this can pretty much only be attempted in the astral plane.
magick: something anyone can do, it’s harnessing your own power and that of nature and the universe as a whole to exact change in your life and the lives around you. it’s a way of manifesting things you want for yourself and other people. it’s a way of answering your own prayers. it’s not like magic in the movies, it’s a more subtle version of it, if that makes sense.
edit: so i recently found out that the term ‘magick’ was coined by alastair crowley, a notable piece of shit. i don’t believe in his teachings, i’m simply using that spelling to distinguish the two forms of magic.
some other common misconceptions about witchcraft:
witches worship Satan
long story short: some of us do. not all of us. those who do are actually usually pretty normal, it’s not the way that Christians would have you believe in most cases. believe me, if what the media portrays it as was the reality (yknow, ritual sacrifice and all that jazz), witches wouldn’t support it either.
witches get their powers in exchange for worshipping (insert deity here, again usually Satan)
nope. everyone has the ability to use magick, and everyone has magick. deities can help us to improve our magick and channel it, but they do not control whether or not we have it.
witchcraft can replace therapy, medicine, and scientific practices
it can’t. it can help with certain issues depending on what you use, but you should ALWAYS seek medical attention where it is required.
witchcraft and scientific practices can’t coexist
there is actually science backing up proof of magick’s effectiveness. granted, not ALL of it can be explained, that’s why it’s not called science. as mentioned earlier, herbal remedies etc and other forms of magick shouldn’t replace science and medical attention.
you have to be a witch your whole life
witchcraft should be treated with respect. it is not something you should rush into. however, if at any point you feel a need to leave for a while or permanently, you can. nobody’s stopping you. many witches take breaks, and that is totally normal.
witchcraft is a religion
nope. anyone of any religion can be a witch, even christians. witchcraft is a spiritual practice, and can coincide with any religion, pagan or not.
you have to be born a witch
some people are. I was. sometimes it’s hereditary, sometimes an aptitude for witchcraft is randomly granted, but anyone can become a witch and anyone can put in the effort to become more powerful.
witchcraft and Wicca are the same thing
they are not. as i said earlier, witchcraft is a spiritual practice and can go hand in hand with any religion of lack thereof. all wiccans are witches since the religion of wicca incorporates witchcraft, but not all witches are wiccan.
so...how do science and witchcraft go together?
the law of attraction
...yeah. the stuff all of the hipster teenage youtubers are doing. it plays a huge part in the effectiveness of the craft. there’s hundreds of resources on how that works, and those can explain it much better than i can.
placebo effect
yes, any witch will admit that in spells performed on yourself, the placebo effect is generally a part of how effective the spell is. however, witchcraft can still work even if the person is unaware of the spell or ritual (like for example, if you do it on another person) so that isn’t ALL that is at play.
crystals
there have been many studies that have proven that crystals give off hormones to impact mood, and also vibrations that can impact things like the law of attraction. i’m not a scientist so i can’t fully explain this, but there are thousands of online resources that can.
scientific and spiritual correspondences
sometimes, it’s not ALL spiritual. sometimes the ingredients of a spell are scientifically proven to do what they’re supposed to do. for example, lavender and chamomile are two of the most common sleep spell ingredients. aside from their magickal impact, the two are scientifically proven to help people sleep. the same goes for using aphrodisiacs in love and attraction spells.
again, that’s only part of what’s at play when it comes to witchcraft. not all of witchcraft and magick can be explained, which is why it’s not called science.
edit: if y’all don’t get the “she turned me into a newt! ...i got better” then y’all can leave please and thank you lol
once i’ve lost 10 pounds,
