Have you ever eaten a new food and thought about the first crazy person who decided it was a good idea to try it? What must have they been thinking, and were they desperate? I USED to wonder until Squishy turned out to be such a forager. Almost always the first thing out of his mouth when we are examining a new piece of nature is "can I eat it?" Thistle is next on his list of edible plants to explore. I honestly don't know many people, much less children, who would look at this fearsome plant and think "that looks like a tasty". Possibly a proprietary matter. Anyway, I've put my helmet on for this afternoon because safety glasses don't suit me.
