Last night I attended a private author event at Live Nation celebrating the publication of our anthology book, BURNED, a collection of stories about fire real & imagined, inspired by the Eaton Fire of 2025.
We read from our stories, met the other authors, and got copies of the book - beautifully designed. Physical objects are still something to behold.
More information on the book and the project to raise money for the local arts community impacted by the fires.

Today, the California Department of Justice formally announces an investigation into the emergency response during the 2025 Eaton Fire. My office will be investigating whether there was race, age, or disability discrimination in the emergency response in West Altadena, which claimed the lives of at least 19 people. Specifically, we'll be looking at whether the systems and structures at play contributed to a delay in the County’s evacuation notice and possible disparities in emergency response in West Altadena.

The announcement goes on to compare the response in West Altadena to the response in neighboring Altadena and observes that fire warnings from community members preceded any kind of official evacuation order.
One year ago today.
Thinking back on the LA fires , I hear in my head what everyone who isn’t from California tells me about why they wouldn’t live here. “I don’t want to live anywhere that could happen.” None of us want to live anywhere that could happen. These fires were human-made.
To be honest...I don't feel like celebrating Christmas this year. Maybe because I know it's getting closer to the day when the Eaton Fire ripped apart my home and forced me to run away.
I just woke up this morning crying, knowing that I'm not where I'm supposed to be. It's just been so hard for me. I wish it was better.
