It didn’t make a lick of sense. Cardinal was not a complete moron. The quiet boy was far from the honor roll, mostly being too annoyed by homework to bother with it, but he could add 2 and 2. Or, at least he’d thought he could. According to the odd little volume that dropped right before him in the library without any visible force, it equaled 78, however.
Flipping a few more pages, the youth’s brows rose ever higher, mouth screwing up to the side. Smack dab in the center of A March Collection To Curio spread an even more curious map. At that point Cardinal had officially hit the limit of his understanding. Yet, a strange prodding desire to do just that led him on a search for one person he was relatively certain might be able to read the book.
Spotting a bowed blonde head in the next section, he approached with care to keep his voice low lest he incur the wrath of the librarians. “Excuse me, are you Anna?” Index finger tapped the cover in his hand and Cardinal offered up what he hoped was cajoling smile. “There’s a little something I’d hoped you might be able to help me with.”
