About ten minutes before they were scheduled to leave, Cardinal stepped onto a bus picked at random, satchel filled with a few of his travel necessities hanging at his side. Supposedly, it was only going to be an hour and a half drive, but the teenager was naturally distrusting of such claims after one too many family trips. Coffee hues scanned the available seats and corners of lips tugged up as he spotted a comrade.
“Hey Busy Bea, this seat taken?” With a palm pressed over his heart, the elder promised, “I solemnly swear not to bore you to tears with any cooking nonsense.” Plopping into the empty space, he withdrew his mirror and a set of headphones. “You won’t even know I’m here, okay?” Never having been terribly good at small talk, the fourth year wasn’t about to try and engage in some unwarranted. It probably would’ve been much less rude if he sat on his own with such an attitude, but that would be impossible with the whole school traveling together.
