Today (May 10th) is my birthday, so to celebrate, I’m reviving Retro Reading Time!

Check in at 12pm (CST) today for the ebook release of Super Smash TV, a game novelization released exclusively as a gift in the UK with the October 1993 issue of Sega Force magazine.

New ebook releases of retro books will come every Friday at noon. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Book 8 came out before 5, 6, and 7?

Since my Retro Reading Time release of the Nintendo Heroes book Mario and the Incredible Rescue was removed from KickassTorrents for copyright violation, I have switched to individual releases on DropBox. And since Before Shadowgate was already completely converted, I decided to release it ahead of schedule. I will still use torrents for batches, though. I have quite a few extras (more than a gig) for when the whole series is converted.

Just 3 more to convert!

That said, it might be a while before the next batch comes out. I'm already working on Wizards & Warriors, but I'll be going out of town next week, so I won't have as much to work on it in the coming week.

Also, future ebook conversions beyond the Worlds of Power series will be released on a sister blog, retroreadingtime. There isn't much there at the moment, but future releases will include the Nintendo Heroes books, the Sonic the Hedgehog novels, the Gooflumps books, the novelization of Metal Gear Solid, and more.

Minor blunders

So in my excitement and rush to release those ebooks yesterday, I made a few minor mistakes.

First, I forgot to designate a cover image in the ePub files, so they won’t display a thumbnail image on some devices.

Second, I forgot to do a final check on Metal Gear’s formatting. When I dumped Metal Gear’s text from the existing ebook, it retained all formatting except bolded and italicized text. Fortunately, there are only about 6 instances of italicized text in the entire book, so not a huge problem.

Oh, and somewhere deep in the code for the table of contents of Metal Gear, it identifies itself as Castlevania II… Whoops.

Like I said, pretty minor stuff, but still an annoyance and I apologize. I have fixed the problems and will release these versions with the next batch of books.

Minor WoP ebook update

Through a lot of trial and error, I finally got the hint box text to a size that should be readable on all devices.

I also dumped the text for Metal Gear and created my own ePub.

So the current progress report looks something like this:

Blaster Master - 100% complete

Metal Gear - 100% complete

Ninja Gaiden - 5% (I converted the first chapter to try out the superior camera on my new phone and started plugging stuff into my WoP ebook template, but that’s all so far)

Castlevania II - 100% complete

Wizards & Warriors - 0%

Bionic Commando - 0%

Infiltrator - 0%

Before Shadowgate - 100% complete

Mega Man 2 - 55% (10 of 21 chapters converted, formatted, and put into the ePub… Also have about half of the hint boxes made)

Bases Loaded II - 0%

So that puts me at nearly halfway done with the entire series… Although I would really like to get some high quality scans of the book covers. What’s available online is pretty inconsistent. I’d do it myself, but I don’t have a scanner.

All in all, not too shabby!

Anyways... on to a less aggrivating topic.

So for my eBook (which I'm ALMOST done with) I still have a few blank pages, I've covered most of the major characters (& with each one I wrote about their realistic persona as well as mythical. Ex: I wrote about Mr. Wednesday & Odin)
