Continuing the line of awesome people from this conference...today I want to give a huge shoutout to @DaniRabaiotti and Steph Januchowski-Hartley (Dani = blond hair, gray jacket; Steph = red sweater). They did an amazing job pulling together the rag-tag team of scicommers who spoke @eccb2018 in our #ECCBSciComm session: "Connecting people with nature: the importance of diverse science communication." It was one of the most publicized and well-received symposiums at the conference, not only before our symposium began, but for all the days after, too. ¬ What with hectic schedules, unforeseen predicaments, and last-minute schedule changes, Dani and Steph worked so hard to make this symposium happen. I'll never forget seeing Dani's tweet come across my Twitter feed asking for scicommers who were interested in speaking at a conference after having two slots free up for various reasons. I was sitting on my uncle's couch in Florida, in late November, and when I saw the tweet, I shrugged and literally thought, "Eh, I'll see what happens," as I replied with my interest in joining. Who could have known 7 months later, we'd have created graphics, videos, podcasts, live streams, and fundraisers for our symposium? We couldn't have asked for a wider range of experiences and projects to present in the symposium. ¬ So here's to Dani and Steph! Thank you for all you did, for your calls to action, and for setting the stones on a path that led to new friendships and experiences.
