Wesley also snapped some good photos of the two of us. Sleepy looking me trying to finish up my second talk! And then a few more selfies for good measure. Classic Wesley.

Google Photos made us the CUTEST #NowandThen photos. 2012 up top and first day of 2019 on the bottom. One lasting passion that @wetlandwiggy and I share is our love and admiration for our national parks and monuments. Our nation’s treasures went unprotected during the shutdown but today many workers are returning. We welcome everyone back and thank you for the hard work ahead as the parks are cleaned and restored.
These photos were taken on the homelands of Southern Paiute and Mvskoke (Muscogee / Creek) respectively.

Why do I #scicomm? . Not because I'm a narcissist. Not just because I'm a woman. Because sharing science on social media is POWERFUL. . Yesterday, @science.sam, a fellow #scicomm'er was unfairly called out in @sciencemagazine by a fellow scientist because of her appearance and for taking "time away from research" because of Instagram. . This was an unnecessary attack on Sam. . The Instagram #scicomm community, composed of people from ALL genders, works HARD everyday to make everyone feel like they're joining scientists in their labs, classrooms, and in remote places "in the field". Science communicators take time during our day to communicate our science. Not for ourselves, but for those who are curious. For those who want to learn. All of this regardless of appearance. . Women in Science used to be INVISIBLE, but now WE ARE BEING SEEN. . I wear makeup. This is what I choose to look like everyday, regardless of if I'm taking selfies or not. . I don't #scicomm because I think I'm cute, I #scicomm to show people WHY museums are THE BEST places in the world. . I want to inspire you. . I want you to know why museums are important. . I want you to see 360 million year old fossils. . If a young girl is inspired by my posts because I look "girly", so be it! I grew up idolizing Jack Horner: a white male paleontologist. It would have been wonderful to have had a woman paleontologist to look up to, but I didn't know any different. . The Instagram @thescicommunity is STRONG. . We are here. . We want to share science with you using the best ways that we know how. . We will keep sharing our passions everyday because the world is a beautiful, wonderful place. . We take time from our day (a lot of time DURING research!) because we just HAVE to show you what FASCINATING thing we just saw before our own eyes. I grab my phone everytime I learn something in order to snap a photo because I want you to be fascinated, too. . Follow @scicommunity. Be inspired. . #scientistswhoselfie #selfie #scicommunity #wearescience #strongertogether #womeninscience #stem #womeninstem #science #wearestemsquad #palaeontology #womeninpaleontology (at Cleveland Museum of Natural History)

I took part in a flash mob on Twitter, yay :) I am a socio-cultural anthropologist who writes about the selfie and digital self-representation among other things. Shoutout to @scientistselfies for bringing the work of scientists to the world! Check them out and join in! Hello! My name is Megan and I am a wildlife biologist and director of tech nonprofit @keyconservation. Here I am in front of the UX/UI design of the Key Conservation app that I have been working on for the past few years. My time working in the field with endangered wildlife and plants inspired me to try and do more to help conservationists fill gaps of funding and support for issues happening in real-time. Many of the projects I worked on were doing critical work for the survival of their species but they often times lacked funding or were hit hard when something unexpected happened. I knew supporters wanted to do more to help during these critical times but usually don’t even know the problem is happening or they don’t know how they can help. With this in mind, I designed an app that provides 3 ways for conservation organizations to get help and 3 ways for supporters to give it. Here’s a quick breakdown: DONATE: Supporters can give vital funds to a conservation project to help with immediate or long-term needs. SKILLED IMPACT: Supporters can give outside of money using their professional skills to help conservation projects. IN-PERSON: Supporters can chose to be alerted to real-time volunteer opportunities in their area and as they travel through geo-based push notifications. This will allow projects to reach local supporters easily for critical in-person needs and events. The best part is after the contribution has been put to use the conservation organization will send a photo/video update to the supporter to show the outcome of their support. Creating a transparent, stronger and more intimate connection. The app design is done and ready we just need to get our funding! Be sure to check us out, if you like what we are doing please support our Indiegogo campaign and share with your friends! If you’re a conservation organization and this sounds like something you’d like to be apart of email me [email protected] and we will make it happen! #scientistswhoselfie #wildlife #biologist #wildlifeconservation #conservation #conservationoptimism #women
Anyone else striving for that #CozyCute look this week? I am taking my time to get this draft done and out to co-authors next week. Women...with beards? Strange but true! This is no sideshow, this is about women's experiences with inequality in paleontology. . The Bearded Lady Project exhibition opens THIS SATURDAY and I can't be more excited! The Bearded Lady Project is a documentary film and photographic project celebrating the work of female paleontologists and highlighting the challenges and obstacles they face. Many of these women are friends of mine! . We will be showing the film at several events and I've planned programming featuring women in science during the run of the exhibition. I'll actually be featured (YAY!) in a video where myself and other co-workers who are also women in science will be giving insight into what got us interested in science from a young age. .
