Who plays Ecgwynn in The Last Kingdom?

Ecgwynn of Cent is played by Scottish actress Julia Brown, and she is best known for taking the lead role as Lois Bennett in World On Fire.

The Edinburgh-born actress has starred in a number of BBC hits including M.I. High and Shetland. Her character Ecgwynn was introduced in season three, and she also appears in The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. She is the former wife of Edward (Timothy Innes) and Edward's family believed their marriage was illegitimate.

They were married in secret but Edward's parents forced them to split and their union was annulled. Ecgwynn was sent to a convent and she was separated from her son Aethelstan.
