Okay, guys, I just thought of a really good idea for one of my characters! The demon one, given that they didn’t have a good education, is now gonna be illiterate for most of the story. Asmodeus starts teaching them how to read as soon as they’re adopted, but in the meantime, it causes them a lot of frustration, so Saeren introduces him to audiobooks, and even reads to Kaz when Kaz decides to let him.
Not only that, but their illiteracy causes them to completely not notice things like road signs, signs for restaurants, written instructions, and lots of other things that NEED to be understood. So much so that, when Saeren tries to communicate to Kaz in writing, he’s forced to make a huge choice about whether to start actually speaking to them or not. They eventually do, just an fyi.
Now that I’ve decided this, I guess I’ve got some lists to make and some research to do about how illiteracy affects people. I clearly don’t know everything about it, seeing as I’m gifted in languages, both written and spoken. But this development is exciting to me and I’m excited to see what I can do with it!
