Can someone give me an argument for Victor Espinoza winning the eclipse over Castellano that’s not, “Victor won the Triple Crown and Javier didn’t?” I’m legitimately curious because I can’t get past the fact that Javier had a much better year in all.
I just don’t feel like an eclipse is justified (for a jockey) over three (four?) GI races on the same horse.
Someone on twitter swears up and down that Tepin is guaranteed to be voted Eclipse Older Mare and at first I was like “no way. Beholder will get it for sure.” But the more I think about it…both won 3 GI races and both won GI’s against males… but Beholder’s win was over a weak field and Tepin won a Breeders’ Cup race…

An earner of more than $2.7 million during a stellar racing career, Big Drama captured the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Churchill Downs, defeating the likes of Wise Dan, Smiling Tiger and Warrior’s Reward. Big Drama also was a spectacular 2-year-old, sweeping the Florida Stallion Stakes Series at Calder by a combined 11 ½ lengths and winning the $750,000 Delta Jackpot (G3) at Delta Downs.
Following his successful juvenile campaign, Big Drama emerged as the best sprinter of his generation, winning 10 stakes races, four of them graded.

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – If everything had gone according to the script that had been written, 3-year-old filly Untapable would have won Sunday’s $1 million Haskell Invitational and put herself squarely in the Horse of the Year conversation.
Well, someone forgot to tell Hall of Fame…
