Merry Christmas #1!!
Matt got me a multi-tool, an engineering tape, drift wood for my aquarium, and an amazing slab of Labradorite!!!
I got the goofy goon a new fish tank and substrate (both one he has been eyeing all year). 😁😁

Have you ever used Eco complete or flourite? I'm planning some tank renos and since I plan on having them planted, I'm trying to figure out which would be a better planting media to mix with Tahitian moon sand.
I’ve used flourite black in 3 tanks so far! my swords and giant hygro seem to do great it in :3 I love the stuff~ if you wanna mix the plant substrate with sand, i’d say you could use whichever substrate matches the sand better :p caribsea makes the eco-complete and the tahitian moon sand, but fluorite makes a product called Fluorite Black Sand. Fluorite might also be cheaper but i’m not 100% sure >.> Also, Fluorite is supposed to be washed (at least the fluorite black i bought with the rinse-in-bag bag was supposed to be) but I dont think you’re supposed to wash eco-complete >.>
Flourite
[ source ] Flourite Black; i wanted to show you about how big the substrate is.
[ source ] Differen’t colors fluorite comes in. Fluorite Black Sand has particles about 1/3-¼ the size of the Flourite Black particles.
Eco-Complete
[ source ] Eco-Complete looks to have rounder particles than fluorite, but…
[ source ] Eco-complete Red looks to have very similar particles to fluorite.
–Hopefully this helped you out a bit anon! :p if anyone has any experiences with eco-complete or fluorite, feel free to share! :D–
I think I figured out what DESTROYED my 55g. These are the bad reviews for Eco-Complete, the substrate I chose. They all sound /juuuuusssssssttt/ like what happened to my 55g. It also makes the most sense, with the various things in the tank that I thought could’ve contaminated it. I don’t recall if I tested the pH (yikes;;;) when everyone was dying, but if it was due to pH that would explain the order of deaths. I’m not going to say that you shouldn’t ever buy Eco-Complete, since there are many wonderful reviews and great experiences, but these reviews and my experience leads me to believe that occasionally they have contaminated or “bad” bags. Personally, I’m not going to ever use it again and risk it. I’ll just stick to flourite. So, if you do decide to, just take this as a warning, and use at your own risk knowing there’s a small chance that it could be a bad bag.
Does ecocomplete have to be rinsed like flourite?
