Went to the Louvre friday evening for a special drawing class with Emil Ferris, graphic novelist from Chicago. By chance she brought us to one of my favorite paintings at the Louvre, Persée secourant Andromède (Perseus saving Andromeda) by Joachim Wtewael. I've wanted to study/copy this painting but I never dared it's too intimidating. But Emil showed us her drawing of herself as the monster, and I realised, Oh, I can draw something that is not literally what the painting is. She talked about letting the artist speak to us, to met thé painting tell us a story. She wrote a graphic novel called "Me, I love monsters". I'm going out to buy it as soon as I can. Ms. Ferris had a way to talk about the paintings around us that was so refreshing and mind expanding. I wish I could tour the whole museum with her. I hope she moves to France! @emilferris #Louvre #learningfromthemasters #draw #backtoschool #ecoledelouvre #sketch https://www.instagram.com/p/B4Ic5A6Cljg/?igshid=1tv0ic75dmwbc

July lesson at the Louvre. This time I went with a friend! It is very nice to sketch together, chat and then go to lunch 😁. This is a group of feathers on the back of the soldier's helmet. He's in anguish after being captured. This may or may not be the subject of Napolean's defeat. I really must do more research so I can be a better guide to the Louvre for you. I like how abstract my feathers turned out to be! I was laughing about them not being light and airy with my friend, but then again they were made of bronze! Got any critique for me? #backtoschool #louvre #learningfromthemasters #ecoledelouvre #sketchbook #drawing #feathers #rococo (at Musée du Louvre) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzm0eEgCOH5/?igshid=m9zh5ly2ud09
Help! I need critique on this one. Les trois grâces, the three muse, sculpture. I think that I find it easier to draw from paintings as they are already flattened out. Speaking of flat, I read recently that monocromatic artists were trying to push the flatness of painting to it's limit. BS or interesting theory? #arttheory #ecoledelouvre #sketchbook #backtoschool #drawingfromthemasters #louvre #artistsofinstagram #drawing #illustration (at Musée du Louvre) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwhgXjKAOwL/?igshid=fvtkhhakp1jz
Yesterday at the Louvre. Mercury kidnapping Psyché by Adriaen de Vries. This one didn't turn out that great. I think it's because 1. the scupture is dark and 2. the pose is complicated. My drawing is very stiff. On the bright side I met a bunch of really nice people, everyone was talking with me, which is fun! They were very encouraging, which every artist needs! I must work on dynamics more. Or do you know another term for movement and weight? #drawingfromthemasters #drawingtechnique #ecoledelouvre #Louvre #artistsofinstagram #sketchbook #backtoschool #artoftattooartists https://www.instagram.com/p/BtIYjv_Avuv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qus0ws009kux
Work from a couple of weeks ago #ecoledelouvre #drawingfromthemasters #sketchbook Jan Vander Straet "vanité, modération and death" (except I didn't get death in my sketch) then, Antoine Caron "Tiburtine Sibyl" Emperor Ceasar being shown the way to Christanity. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo3QzJUneyI/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ik5o1k4rlk7f
