"The human hand destroys everything it touches."
nature journal
Recently I’ve been working on some life sized sculptures of naturally small things. Here is a garden snail hanging out with some Russula emetica mushrooms and a ramaria araiospora (coral fungus) with British soldier lichen and fern moss. 🐌🍄🌿 🖤
So excited to get Christy Rupp’s new book, “Noisy Autumn”, a career survey of her art and her work as an advocate for the earth. The book’s title pays homage to Rachael Carson’s groundbreaking publication Silent Spring on its 60th anniversary, bringing together more than 4 decades of sculpture and works on paper by an artist working on the front lines of Eco art since the 1970’s. Spotlighting the waste stream and its impact on habitat, the work takes aim at consumption and how we form our opinions about nature. She uses found materials to dramatize these issues in her work, from gold credit cards to turkey bones found in fast food dumpsters, her materials reiterate the message, in visually compelling ways. The book is a collaboration with artist and book designer Abby Goldstein, and features essays by Lucy Lippard, Carlo McCormick, Nina Felshin, Amy Lipton and new poems by Bob Holman, as well as 108 color photos of work spanning the past 4 decades. It’s available from Printed Matter, @printedmatterinc and other books sellers. @christy_rupp @printedmatter_stmarks #lucylippard666 #carlomccormickick #liptonarts @bobholman #ecoarts #ecologyart #savetheearth #nyartistscircle @nyartistscircle (at New York City, N.Y.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXXE6b4FHJW/?utm_medium=tumblr

Ongoing work on a project related to ocean acidification and plankton. A diatom in this case- Lyrella spp. I’m still playing with surfacing- this one was Raku fired. #handmadepottery #ecologyart #diatoms #contemporaryceramics #plankton #natureart #anthropocene #oceanconservation (at Moscow, Idaho) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMkrPU2jz7C/?igshid=17ntknoh58mgm
