This piece explores a dystopian future where humanity grapples with the aftermath of industrialization. Gigantic, polka-dotted factories belch smoke, yet amidst this desolation, vibrant green flora thrives in containment pools. Workers in protective gear meticulously tend to these plants – a poignant symbol of life persisting against all odds.

"The Glitch Haunting" Animated Environmental Concept & Transition

Hurrayyy! Finally I'm done with this amazing intro for my closest clients, it's really detailed with the all assets along with the shadings A short animated clip showcasing a futuristic, neo-noir apartment interior that undergoes a sudden, shocking atmospheric transition. The scene shifts from a clean, neon-lit cyberpunk lounge to a dusty, haunted space filled with cobwebs and a ghostly apparition, utilizing a glitch effect to punctuate the unsettling change.

Project Breakdown

Concept & Theme

The goal was to visually convey a sudden shift in reality or a supernatural invasion within a modern, structured environment. The core theme is the juxtaposition of the futuristic (clean tech and neon) with the supernatural/past (ghosts and decay). The transition uses a dramatic digital glitch to signify a break in the fabric of reality, creating an immediate sense of tension and fear.

Environment Design & Scene Breakdown

Cyberpunk Scene (Start):

Style: Clean, stylized lines with a strong focus on neon lighting (pink/purple from the city window, blue/teal from the lamp).

Elements: Futuristic, ergonomic seating, a sleek coffee table, modular shelving, and a large TV displaying a vibrant, energetic visual (implied digital signal or game). The large window displaying the city name "KIASMA" grounds the scene in a specific world.

Haunted Scene (End):

Style: The same structural environment is overlaid with elements of decay and horror.

Elements: The colors shift to muted purples, deep reds, and dark shadows. The ceiling and corners are draped with detailed cobwebs. A prominent, glowing green/white ghost appears in the center, and the TV screen changes to a spooky, symbolic emblem.

Art Process & Animation

Initial Environment Art: Created a single, detailed background illustration of the room, focusing on perspective and strong light sources.

Color Key: Used two distinct color keys: one cool/neon (cyberpunk) and one warm/dark (haunted) for immediate contrast.

Animation & Transition:

Glitch Effect: The key moment involves a rapid, digital glitch effect (distortion, color separation, scan lines) used to mask the blend between the two scenes, making the transformation jarring and supernatural.

Layering: The ghost and cobwebs were animated or drawn on separate layers and introduced during and after the glitch. The ghost's soft glow and subtle floating movement enhance the eerie mood.

Sound Design: The clip is enhanced by distinct sound effects the futuristic hum/music of the first scene, the sudden glitch sound, and the eerie, distorted music/screams of the haunted scene which are critical for maximizing the impact of the transition.

Tools Used

Software: Adobe After Effects (for animation and glitch effects) / Clip Studio Paint / Procreate (for environment painting and assets).

Hardware: iPad Pro with Apple Pencil.

Brushes: Hard brushes for defining architectural lines, soft airbrushes for smooth neon glows, and custom texture brushes for the cobwebs and smoke/haze effects.

Seed Stories: How Environmental Art and Sustainable Design Support Pollinators

Location and Significance of the InstallationThe “Seed Stories” art installation is located at the heart of Wakehurst Kew’s wild botanic garden in West Sussex. It was unveiled during this year’s summer season. This initiative is the creation of visual artist Kristina Pulejkova. She chose to focus on the life cycle of seeds within a broader vision that supports ongoing efforts to conserve pollinators in the United Kingdom.Blending Art with Environmental ScienceFrom another perspective, the installation combines principles of sustainability, environmental science, and digital technology. This is clearly reflected through four carefully crafted wooden sculptures designed to be more than just artworks. They also serve a practical purpose by providing ‘hotels’ for bees seeking safe shelter in the face of increasing environmental challenges.Source of Inspiration and Material SpecificsIt is worth noting that the design of this installation draws inspiration from Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank (MSB). This bank is the world’s largest underground seed bank and a vital resource for conserving diverse wild plant species.Looking deeper, Pulejkova’s functional artworks were created using untreated marine plywood and cedar wood. These materials were carefully selected for their environmental compatibility, as well as their natural antifungal and aromatic properties. As a result, the sculptures are bee-friendly and offer safe havens that protect the insects from the extreme heat waves that British summers occasionally experience.Scientific Principles Behind Pollinator Hotel DesignIn a related context, the design of these pollinator hotels is based on precise scientific standards. Kristina Pulejkova worked closely with Dr. Janine Griffiths-Lee. She leads the Trees for Bees initiative focused on habitat restoration for pollinators.Through this collaboration, the entrances to the ‘hotels’ were determined using scientific data on bee preferences. These ensure that the chosen colours align with the bees’ visual spectrum. They favour shades of blue, yellow, and violet, while avoiding reds and greens.Additionally, the design allows researchers to collect pollen left by the bees inside these hotels. This provides valuable data for studying which bee species prefer specific tree types.Augmented Reality as an Educational ToolMoreover, augmented reality (AR) technology has been integrated into the four sculptures, accessible through a dedicated mobile application. When each interactive piece is scanned, an educational story unfolds, highlighting a specific seed from the Millennium Seed Bank.Through this feature, visitors gain deeper insight into the vital role this seed bank plays in climate preservation. It also safeguards biodiversity and supports global food security.Practical Contribution to Conservation EffortsTurning to its practical dimension, the pollinator hotels project is installed directly within the natural landscape. It is closely linked to ongoing scientific research. This connection enhances its contribution to broader efforts to protect biodiversity.On one hand, these hotels provide bees with a safe refuge in the face of environmental challenges. On the other, they function as living laboratories, enabling researchers to observe how bees interact with various plants and habitats.Additionally, Seed Stories aims to raise public awareness of the delicate relationships that connect pollinators, seeds, and the natural ecosystems. These are whose true value we often overlook.Research Collaboration and the Importance of Seeds and PollinatorsIn conclusion, it is worth highlighting that the Seed Stories project was developed in collaboration with Kew’s Nature Unlocked programme. This programme focuses on researching the value of biodiversity within the United Kingdom. It aims to deliver nature-based solutions to major challenges such as climate change and food security.Beyond the visual appeal of its organic design, this installation emphasises the vital connections between seeds and the future of biodiversity. It also sheds light on pollinators like bees.
