Can You Heard the Sound of The Screaming Spirit Ranging from deep within the Hell known as Creation.
What's this? Two themes working together? Why, yes dear Phandom, this year the opposing sides of our theme will be working together against... foes?
We changed it up a little and decided to do prompts only Monday-Friday and left the weekends open as catch up days for you, the creators (and for us on the mod team!). And just like last year, our event ends on the 24th to make way for the Ectober Week event!
So this means there are no specific prompts for Oct. 1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, or 23rd, or the 25th-31st.
Please tag all prompt fills as "Ectoberhaunt22", and follow the additional posting guidelines below!
Posting for this event begins October 3rd!
Down below are our written out calendar prompts (for accessibility) AND our posting guidelines. Check em out!

Danny had been having a rare peaceful, lazy Sunday afternoon when the call came in, relaxing on the couch with the astrophotography book Jazz had gotten him for Christmas. It was early January, and the ghosts hadnât come back yet, and the teachers hadnât assigned too much stuff right after the break, so he was caught up.
It was unusual. It was nice. Â
He should have been waiting for the other shoe to drop. Â
The phone rang. He ignored it. Anyone calling him would call his cell phone, and his parents were right there, in the kitchen. Â
He listened with half an ear as someone - his mother, by the sound of it, although it might have been Jazz - pushed back a chair and walked over to the wall the phone hung on. Â
âHello, this is Maddie Fenton speaking.â
Heâd been right. He smiled a little and turned the page. Those were some nice nebulas. Â
âMatthew? I wasnât expectingâ What? No. No, that canâtââ She fell silent for a long minute, quiet except for exclamations of shock. âDo you know howâ? I understand. I understand. Of course weâll be coming. I might not agree with- withâ Oh, god.â
There was a sort of heavy sound, and Danny got up, leaving his book on the couch. His mother was sitting against the wall, under the phone receiver. Jack and Jazz had both gotten out of their seats, their projects abandoned on the table. Â
âOkay,â said Maddie. âOkay. I understand. Weâll be ready to go when they get here. Okay. Call me if anything⌠Alright. Matthewâ Iâm sorry. I wishââ She shook her head. âIâm sorry. Weâll be there.â She dropped the phone and let it hang from its cord, the âno signalâ noise coming on a minute later. Â
âMom?â asked Danny. âWhat happened?â
She looked up. âYour, um.â She rubbed at her eyes. âThat was my cousin, Matthew. Grandpa Alfred and Grandma RoseâŚâ
Those were her grandparents, Dannyâs great-grandparents. Maddieâs parents had died before Danny was born. Â
âWhat happened?â prodded Danny, well aware it couldnât be anything good.
âThey died,â said Maddie, softly. âA earlierâ Last nightâ Hours ago. And so didâ So did your Great Uncle Theodore and your Great Aunt Isabella. And, um, my cousins William and Martin.â
âOh my god,â said Jazz. âWhat happened? Were they all on a plane together, orâŚ?â
âNo,â said Maddie. âThey donât know what happened. Aunt Cathrine and Uncle John arenât doing well, and apparently Vivian is missing.â
Of course Aunt Cathrine and Uncle John werenât doing well. Their spouses had just died. Danny wasnât doing all too well himself, and he couldnât say heâd been close to any of them. They were still family. Â
âWhat about the others? Lewis and Leo? Or Iris and George? Or Joanna and Eugene?â
âI donât know,â said Maddie, pushing her hair back from her face. âMatthew didnât mention them. Iâm sure if something happened to his kids he would have said something.â
âWeâre going, arenât we, Mads?â
âYeah,â said Maddie. âUm.â She scrubbed her sleeve across her face. âKids, go get packed. Jack, we need Spector Deflectors for all of us.â
âYou think it was ghosts?â asked Jack. Â
âSix of my family members just dropped dead with no cause of death,â said Maddie, voice breaking in the middle of the sentence. âGrandma and Grandpa were ninety-eight, but Martin was our age. And all at once? Itâs just like with my parentsâŚâ She shuddered, then started the process of pulling herself up off the floor. Jack gave her a hand up. âThereâs a ghost involved.â She shook her head. âI warned them.â
She and Jack went to the lab door. When they got there, she turned back. âYou need to go, showers and pack now. I donât know how long it will be before theyâll pick us up.â
âA flight to Chicago from London usually takes eight or so hours,â said Jazz. âSo at least that, unless they sent someone to pick us up before calling.â
âI donât know,â said Maddie. âIt sounded likeâ I donât know.â
âAlright,â said Jack. âIâll take care of things in the lab, you get our things together for the trip.â
âJack, you canât do it all by yourself.â
âIâm just getting the deflectors and making sure everything is off. Youâre doing the packing.â
.
Danny knelt on the floor, debating. The last time theyâd visited that part of the family had been before his accident. There were a lot of things he wanted to bring, but what he could bring was a different story. The fact was, he had no idea what the plane would allow, much less security and customs, and some of his stuff was incredibly suspicious. Â
Vials of green, glowing, liquid, anyone?
Meditatively, he rubbed his hands over the spot in the floor heâd phased his special first-aid kit into. There was definitely going to be trouble. It would absolutely be useful to have a way to patch himself up. If anyone saw some of the more⌠unusual items, there would be questions he couldnât answer. Â
Maybe he could just take the less suspicious parts? Nothing with visible ectoplasm in it. Â
He phased the kit out from the floor and continued packing. The funeral would undoubtedly be a formal event, but he knew heâd be doing some snooping, so he wanted to bring something he could move inâŚ
The enormity of what had happened hit him again, and he swayed. So much of his familyâŚÂ It didnât matter that they werenât close. Both his heart and his core cried in grief and out for justice. Maybe it would turn out that it had been some kind of freak accident in the end. Â
But if it wasnât, whoever was responsible would be very sorry indeed. Â
As Danny forced the last of his gear into his suitcase - using only a little phasing to get it done - he heard a car pull up in front of Fentonworks. Then another. Then another. Â
He looked out the window. Down below were three huge dark gray cars, each one built squat and stout. If he didnât miss his guess, the tinted windows were probably bulletproof and the interiors armored. Â
They were exactly the kind of vehicle Sam would hate and Tucker would love. Â
Oh, crud. Sam and Tucker. Â
He grabbed his phone, belatedly remembering to throw the charger into his bag, and dialed Sam. Â
âThis is a bit early for you, isnât it?â said Sam, by way of greeting. âDid the ghosts finally come back?â
âUm,â said Danny, âno.â He wasnât sure how to say this. âMy great-grandparents just died, and, um, my great-aunt and uncle. And some of my cousins.â
âOh my gosh, Danny, are you alright?â
âNot really,â said Danny. âIâm still⌠processing.â
âWhat happened?â
âI donât know, Mom didnât say. Weâre leaving right now, and I donât know how long weâll be out of townââ
âDanny! Jazz! Theyâre here!â called Maddie from downstairs. Â
âIâve got to go,â said Danny. âJust keep an eye on things? Please?â
âOf course,â said Sam. âCall me when you can?â
âYeah. Could you call Tucker, I called you because I knew youâd be awake, butââ
âDanny!â
âI really have to go, thanks, bye!â
He snapped the phone closed and hefted his suitcase over his shoulder. No more time. He had to hope things wouldnât collapse too badly while he was gone. He had been out of town before. Â
But he didnât know how long this would be. Â
He reached the ground floor at the same time his dad came up from the basement, a small amount of ectoplasm splattered on his jumpsuit.
âAre you okay?â asked Danny. Â
Jack made a face, but then forced a smile. âSure thing, Danny-boy! Just shutting down the portal while weâre away.â His smile twitched. âItâll⌠probably be fine while weâre gone. Shouldnât be too many more natural portals in town, as long as we donât leave it off for too long.â
âRight,â said Danny, offering up a very similar smile. Â
âMaybe I can ask Vladdie to look after the portal while weâre gone?â
âYouâll have to call him later,â said Danny, hoping Jack would forget. Â
They emerged into the entryway, where there were several large men wearing suits. Danny could see, very faintly, the outline of real guns under their jackets. One of them was more familiar than expected. Â
âMr. Kynbaz,â said Danny. Even knowing Matthew was sending someone, he didnât think it would be Mr. Kynbaz.Â
âHello there, Master Daniel, Dr. Fenton,â said Mr. Kynbaz, with a soft but rather strained smile. Â
âI didnât think you ever left the country,â said Danny, before he could think better of it.
Mr. Kynbazâs expression twisted in pain. âWe were a only a couple hours north, in Canada.â
âOh, for Johanna and Eugene?â asked Maddie. âIâd forgotten they were visiting his father there this yearâŚâ
âYes, maâam,â said Mr. Kynbaz. âThey left for home on their own plane; we have a charter for you at the airport.â
âAlright,â said Maddie. âI donât suppose you have any other news?â
âIâm afraid not, maâam.â
âAlright,â said Maddie. âAlright. So, we just⌠go.â
Mr. Kynbaz nodded. âIf you would let Mr. Rigyn and Miss Blys take your bags, weâll get you into the cars.âÂ
Maddie nodded and stepped forward.
âOne at a time,â said Mr. Kynbaz. âIâm sorry, maâam, but with as little as we know, I donât want your whole family to be out in the open at once.â
Danny felt himself go pale. That wasnât something heâd even considered. Â
There was a brief discussion about bringing the GAV instead - it was armored - but in the end they left the house and got into the car one by one. Â
Mr. Kynbaz entered last, settling into his seat with a sigh. He pushed a button on his earpiece and said, âPrincess Madeline and family are secured. Move out.â
