Helen was waiting in the alcove for them. She looked grim, which only made Nikomedes’ gut twist more.

“I talked him into giving me a key this time,” she said, gesturing. The door was open.

Nikomedes had never been in Gen’s room at the library before. It was one of the places Gen guarded fiercely– a place to work and sleep, not to share. Depending on the day and his mood, he talked about his library room like it was a perfectly normal thing to have, or flat-out denied it existed.

It was bigger than he expected, and better lit. There were floor lamps along with the overhead fluorescent lights, and all of them were on.

after months, i finally was able to draw again, so i did another installation of my modern AU. if you can divine when along the timeline this is then you’re phenomenal and we should talk. otherwise that’s my secret :)

first attempt to redraw an eddis helen that i originally posted... 10 years ago??? on lined paper??? what was i thinking

decided to start with a freehand sketch, just to work out how i envision helen now. pleasantly surprised with the results! i may leave this version as it is for now, but hey... 5 contest entries, maybe 4 more queens as beautiful and the day and as brilliant as the sun in the sky...
