My gift for AO3 user EternalLibrary, who requested Irene and Helen's evolving relationship throughout the series, which I looooooooooove. Their circumstances originally positioned them as enemies, but they have so much in common---young princesses elevated to queens in a tumultuous world of men, struggling to keep their small countries alive and independent through whatever means they can. Eugenides, on the other hand, probably thought everything through in meticulous detail except for the fact that he was UNITING THE ONLY TWO WOMEN ON THE PENINSULA WHO ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT PUT UP WITH HIS SHIT

Sophos & Helen were accustomed to holding their firstborn even when on the throne of Sounis, listening to petitions. But this is the last time, as the toddler wants to play the 'sculpt Dada's face' game. Sounia is having a very difficult time controlling her face. (So, apparently, am I. I may redraw this at some point.)

Helen & Irene have gotten comfortable enough with one another for Helen to explain the meanings behind her tattoos.

Sophos, beside her looking wan, pivoted his entire focus like a hunting dog scenting a fresh trail.

“You promised you wouldn’t tell me anything,” Gen hissed ferociously. “We had a deal.”

“I’m not telling, I’m warning,” Helen said, and then aside to Sophos, “I’m sorry to use you like this, but he hasn’t slept.”

Sophos accepted this disappointment with distracted equanimity, puzzling something out while he squinted at Gen.

Gen threw the keys at her, annoyed when she caught them.
