The Edison Memorial Tower in the Menlo Park section of Edison Township, #NewJersey. Many think that there are historic facilities here, but unfortunately no historic buildings dating to Edison's time remain. This site, now known as Edison State Park, was active from 1876-1884 and is recognized as the first organized research laboratory in the world. There is a small museum (@thomas_edison_center) at the site in addition to this art deco memorial tower, which was dedicated in 1938, and the archaeological remains of his office (built in 1879). After Edison left the site, which also included a laboratory, machine shop, and other outbuildings, it fell into a state of disrepair. Henry Ford wanted to move Edison's laboratory to Greenfield Village in Michigan. When Ford and Edison went to NJ to recover the building, they found that most of the buildings had been removed or had collapsed. Ford had his staff reconstruct the laboratory from photographs and a few surviving original materials. The tower was recently restored. #nj #njhistory #SpreadTheHistory #historygirl #archi_ologie #architecture #thomasedison #edisonmemorialtower #edison #edisonnj #history #americanhistory #innovation #blog #blogger #travelblog #travelblogger #jerseycollective #explorenj #monument #inventor #menlopark #menloparknj #researchlaboratory #lightbulb (at Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Tower and Museum)
