What a fantastic Christmas dinner we’ve just had - Penny taught me how to dress the ham and check when it was ready to eat. She insists I know how to make a proper supper for my husband once I’m married - I tried to explain that I am certain I’ll marry Malcom and that the Landgraab’s likely never cook a thing for themselves, but she wouldn’t listen. I suppose it might be good to know.
All the branches of the Scott family have sent letters wishing us a Merry Christmas and a good New Year, and told us all the news from their homes. Most of it was boring, but here’s the good stuff - Cousin Floyd and his wife Alice have two little boys now (Lester and Russell!), Cousin Robbie got a Scottish Terrier pup in his stocking, and Auntie Edna is still a spinster with absolutely no interesting news to tell. Oh, and Cousin Frank joined us for dinner, as he doesn’t have any parents or a wife to spend it with.
Dear Ma and Pa,
If you’ve found this letter, then I am gone. Aboard the same boat carrying Travis and Sophia across the ocean to Britechester. I’m sorry I didn’t say goodbye - I knew that you would stop me. I don’t want to marry Joaquin, and you can tell him that.
If you need to contact me, send the message to Travis. He’ll know where to find me.

My brothers - Travis, Rob, and Glenn - have all answered the call of patriotism and gone to join the fight. Robinette was wed to his sweetheart Venessa before departing.
Not for the first time, I feel like the odd one out in the family. Even my Uncle Elmer is going to fight, though he is nearly too old to be accepted. I feel like a coward for staying home while other stronger men go to fight.
Travis Jr has married Edna’s best friend, Sophia. It was quite a sudden thing - I’ve never know Travis to show interest in anything but his art. It seems as if there’s been a change in him - he asked Miss Jordan to marry him, and seemed eager to be wed. Edna is just as happy, and insisted on helping with every bit of the planning. I expect she’s excited for her own upcoming wedding. Though Travis and Sophia won’t be able to attend that ceremony - my son is taking his art supplies and his bride to live across the ocean in Britechester, where he will hone his craft and start his family.
Dear diary,
It was a really lovely day today, so me and the boys hiked up the hill to the ice in town and did some skating. Glenn was awful at it, but Travis and Robin have nearly got the hang of it. Sophia showed up after the others had gone home for supper, and showed me the new mittens she got from her aunt (though they don’t keep her hands very warm - she asked me to hold them to warm her up!). Ma wasn’t happy that I missed dinner and got home well past dark, but I’m too happy to care much.

We’re so glad to have Calvin back home - every day seems brighter with the whole family together again. He’s still weak, but it helps him to sit in the garden and breathe the fresh air. Travis has bought him an easel of his own. He teaches him how to paint, when Calvin feels well enough. It seems we may have two artists in the family.
Dear diary,
I was just miserable at the thought of marrying Joaquin - I will not be made to do it. Travis comforted me after Joaquin’s last attempt at begging me to be his wife. Though I could think of no way out of this horrible union without becoming estranged from my family and forced to make my own way in the world, Travis has thought of quite a good plan. Sophia likes it too. A way to be free of Joaquin, remain with my family, and be with the girl I love - could it be possible?
