My cousins, Floyd and Albert, came to visit me in the city. Uncle Elmer is away at war still, and they expressed how useless they feel, unable to join the war effort and help defend our country alongside their father. Albert cannot enlist as he was born with only one full leg (though he now wears a false leg), and Floyd would not be accepted because of the colour of his skin. I doubt it was their intention, but our conversation has spurred me to action. The children will be left in Esther’s highly capable care until I return.
