The Best Way To Store Your Cannabis
Not all cannabis users inhale it like it's oxygen - a lot of people only consume small amounts at a time. If you end up saving some of your stash for later, there are quite a few factors that could degrade the quality of your buds, or even cause them to grow mold. No need to panic, Lifted Bud has everything you need to know about keeping your cannabis fresh and safe!
The big cannabis killers are temperature, light, and humidity. If your pot is too warm it will dry out faster, making it taste unpleasant and generally less potent. Storing your cannabis in the freezer can cause the trichomes to fall off, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you plan on making concentrates like shatter. However, if you're looking to preserve your pot and keep it potent, you definitely want those trichomes to stay right where they are. Long term exposure to light can also degrade the THC in your stash, so it's best to store it in a dark and cool/room temperature place.
But what kind of container should you use to stash your stash? Resealable plastic bags are usually the go to item for many people, but this creates the possibility of your buds being crushed and turned into shake and dust inside the bag. If it's a large bag that you're not carrying around it'll be much safer, but every time the bag moves the cannabis inside will break up a little more turning your precious pot into unsavory shake. In addition to that, scents can permeate through plastic bags which also means moisture is getting out, your cannabis is losing it's aroma and taste, and starting to dry out. So if plastic bags aren't a good option, paper, tinfoil, envelopes, etc. are definitely not good ideas.
The best possible way to store your cannabis is in airtight glass jars.
You can buy brand new jars or clean and re-purpose old pasta sauce or jam/jelly jars - they're really not hard to find at all! Any size will do, however in this case bigger isn't necessarily better. Ideally you want to find a jar that's just large enough to hold all the cannabis you plan to store. More space in the jar equals more air, and more air leads to your stash drying out faster. However, keeping your cannabis in a slightly too-large jar in a dark, cool place is still better than keeping it in a plastic sandwich bag.
So there you have it! Do you already stash your stash in a jar, or are you making mental plans to get your hands on some?
