I wonder how the woebegoners that have never visited the Discord server are doing
They don't know about the Ty and Felix duets...
They don't know about Fe's cover of I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor by Arctic Monkeys...
They don't know that there will be 12 Samantha Chronicles...
They don't know that sometimes Ty Betteridge just hangs out thMaybe I shouldn't say that one. Don't worry the server is perfectly safe
I still think that the reason why ragebait and people being nasty on interent is more out there is because we YES WE FORGET HOW TO DEAL WITH TROLLS.
Sometimes people are just that bad enough to want to get under your skin for attention by saying and sending gross stuff. Arguing with them when they don't want to listen, getting on THEIR level, letting it get to YOU is how they get you. They are a very vocal minority and we let get the attention they want, and now they are a plague once AGAIN.
why must we focus on the bad all the timee, there's so much more people who are worth our time and they are a PLENTY. And those good people should get more attention too. SO in other words, if some people are trying to get a rise out of you, don't interact, block, ignore, report! Don't feed the trolls
The thing with third parties is that third parties never win. It's a shame, because some of them are really great, but overall, no matter how well they do, they won't win. So you're basically throwing away your vote.
Even worse, however, is that when they do do well, it can ruin an election. Here's a very simplified hypothetical election to explain;
The Conservatives:
Republican Candidate gets 39% of the votes
Right-wing Third Party gets 1% of the votes
The Liberals:
Democrat Candidate gets 35% of the votes
Left-wing Third Party gets 10% of the votes
Left-wing Third Party gets 8% of the votes
Left-wing Third Party gets 5% of the votes
Left-wing Third Party gets 2% of the votes
-----
As you can see, while Liberal parties got 60%--a majority--of the votes, the republican candidate is going to win, because they got more votes than any single other party did. If 20% of the people voting for independent parties had votes for the Democratic Candidate instead, the Democratic Candidate would have gotten that 5% more that they needed to win.
This isn't as big deal right now, but think back to the Al Gore election of 2000 (?). Bush won because too many left-wingers voted for the Green Party instead of the Democratic Candidate
So what's the point of independents anyways?
In the end, the purpose of an independent party is to raise awareness, and I would never recommend voting for one unless, somehow, there was a very high chance it would win. People like Count Binface (who inspired me to make this) are really great, but they work best to spread awareness and inspire people to have hope. (Though Binface is doing this because he is the main opposition to Farage; he's doing this because someone had to.
Sorry this is umm a bit off-topic I just like educating the masses and yapping about things that interest me. Keep in mind I took Gov for one semester a year ago so some things may be incorrect, but I made sure to check claims that I made and a lot of this is also just logic-based.
I am in no way trying to discourage people, but instead providing advice as someone who has had the privilege to learn this. The literacy crisis is crazy right now, and I think it's very important, especially to me, to present important and relevant information in a manner in which anyone can learn from it.
Most importantly: VOTE!! Even if you don't love the person you choose to vote for, it's more important to remember that sometimes you need to make a small sacrifice, because if you don't, Donald Trump gets to run the country. Please vote! Please, please, please vote! I know everyone talks about how much America sucks; listen, in many ways it does. But we can vote. Maybe voting is hard and lots of people can't access it because of how it works. But we. can still. vote. And none of that stuff is going to get better if the people who aren't restricted to vote decide to skip.
Honestly, I think people don’t realize how short a pitch is.
This is kinda in response to that anon I just answered too.
You need to get the basis down pat, who are the characters, what it’s about, how it ends. Sometimes you are only given 10mins, sometimes less like 5. However, if it starts to go longer than that, no one stopping you, that’s a good sign. But within those first few minutes you need to get the key components of the show, so unless the LGBT couple is a key essential thing, you’re not gonna list it, because most of the time they won’t care of the nitty gritty details. They basically want the plot, beginning, middle, and how the series would end.
I’ve a couple of good friends who have some... traditional conservative views concerning transgender people and it rather disappoints me that this is so.They are good friends with a new transwoman but even so believe certain often-parroted lies such as children being forced to be trans, that being trans is now the “in thing,” and concerns about men wearing dresses to rape women.
This is rather frustrating to me as I love them dearly. And they accept me for being bisexual. But seeing this blind faith in the lies about transgender women just rubs me wrong. I mean, I’m not the most liberal of people but I do change my views when I learn additional information that proves my views wrong. Why other folk don’t is alien to me.
I know facts alone won’t fix things. It also depends on how you present an argument. But I’m hoping to try and find a way to show my friends that transgender women are not a threat. So... if anyone has any ideas or links with information that helps provide data showing transwomen are not a threat to other women... well, I’d appreciate it.
