National Geographic's "my first pocket guide: Dogs & Wild Dogs," 1999, First Trade Edition 2002 reviewed and updated by Ronald M Nowak. Writer-Researcher for this book was Marfé Ferguson Delano.
Bought at my local thrift store, I haven't fully read this, but it covers a variety of dog breeds and wild canine species and is geared towards kids. It's incredibly adorable, and I'm going to use it as reference/inspiration for my own educational materials that I want to make!
Be Kind to Me, a book of reasons to love the important underappreciated things.
I've been so good about not telling you too much about this project, saving it for this surprise! I've written and illustrated and self published this book! It features 14 plants, animals, and insects that are often thought of as pests, but are actually so lovely and important. Educational for both kids and grown ups, I hope it will help inspire people to be kind to our planet and all the wonderful things that grow and live on it.
Preorders are now open! You can get copies only through my Etsy shop. The preorders END AUGUST 1ST 2020 AT 10PM EST

Mother and brother did not live in Nagoya Castle?!
Nobunaga’s mother, Dota Gozen, who disliked Nobunaga’s crass manners, took his younger brother Nobuyuki to live in Suemori Castle, to the East of Nagoya Castle. His father Nobuhide lived in Furuwatari Castle. As such, ever since a young age, Nobunaga lived in Nagoya Castle separated from both of his parents.
----------------------------
I found this little info tidbit from yet another educational picture book.
This info is, well, weird. According to the official site of Furuwatari castle says the castle was abandoned when Nobuhide moved to Suemori. By “abandoned” it means that upon moving to Suemori, there’s nobody left in Furuwatari. When Nobuhide still lives in Furuwatari, Suemori Castle has not been built yet. Someone must have gotten something wrong somewhere, or there exists two contradicting source texts.
So this book has “manga biography” segments, and big spreads of detailed information. There’s also “info corners” like the above segment. The manga portion are sometimes based on theories and legends, such as “Takechiyo (young Ieyasu) and Nobunaga were friends”. The actual informative segments seems to be based on the Shinchoukouki text, at least the chapter on Nobunaga’s youth. The preview doesn’t cover much, so I don’t know how they present the rest of Nobunaga’s life.
^ Mitsuhide bonus appearance in the manga segment of Nobunaga visiting Dousan. He is reporting to Dousan that Nobunaga comes into town looking and acting as much as an idiot as the rumours say.

IF YOU TAKE AWAY THE OTTER, by Susannah Buhrman-Deever, Illustrated by Matthew Trueman, Candlewick Press
On the Pacific Coast of North America, sea otters play, dive, and hunt for sea urchins, crabs, abalone, and fish in the lush kelp forests beneath the waves. But there was a time when people hunted the otters almost to extinction. Without sea otters to eat them, an army of hungry sea urchins grew and destroyed entire kelp forests. Fish and other animals that depended on the kelp were lost, too.…
Even that I am already doing my postdoc, I really dedicate time for my further education. I believe that hard work and dedication pay off and I will become even better in my profession.
I just subscribed for a course about Supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s Students. My very first Master’s student is coming for her research internship on Monday so I could put the advices from the course directly into action.
Today I also purchased a book about scientific writing - Writing Science: How to Write Papers That Get Cited and Proposals That Get Funded. And I am very excited to read that!
Bought at my local thrift store, a lovely little book with an array of photos and information about coyotes. I haven't read it yet, but it looks quite cute and like a good little starter book with some fun facts!
