Why I Want To Become A Teacher
My name’s Maya, and the reason why I want to become a teacher is because of a teacher I had in highschool. She reminded me of my elementary school teachers due to how much she genuinely cared for all her students, no matter their background. Everyday my sophmore teacher would walk into the room with the biggest smile on her face. In the beginning it honestly irritated me how happy she was, but then I started to realize just how much her smile impacted me. Whenever I had a bad day I could always count on her jokes to make me laugh. Whenever I had a good day, I could always count on her words of praise to keep me encouraged. She was consistent, and she was joyful. She changed my life that year, and inspired me to spend the rest of my life doing what she did.
Therefore, after that year was over, I decided to pursue a career in education. I decided on elementary education because elementary teachers are there from the beginning which makes it a little more easier to make a positive impact. Ideally I’d love to teach 1-3 grade, but I’m okay with wherever God places me.
To help keep me motivated, I look up to Miss Honey from Matilda. Miss Honey’s way of teaching is incredible because just like my sophmore year teacher, she is genuine. Miss Honey isn’t an educator just to teach, she is an educator to make a difference in her students’ lives. In the movie, she made Matilda feel loved for the very first time in her life, and gave her a safe place from her circumstances at home. Miss Honey was consistently there for all her students and inspires me to do the same.
I am SO excited to finally be in college, and start this new journey to becoming an educator!
