Something was wrong. Of course, being arrested for something he had no knowledge of was bad in itself, but Amir could feel that something was very, very wrong.
Mya was talking to him. He couldn’t make out the words, but they were comforting all the same. Even though there were a few swears tossed around, she meant them in a good way.
However much he tried to think positively, reality would come back and punch him. That’s when the fear began to settle in.
He heard the officials mention Eddie’s name, Edward Odon, and Amir felt scared. They had been arrested on suspicion of aiding murder, but it had never been said who they were “aiding”.
Eddie. It was the only name that, however much he hated it, made sense. Edward Odon. The cute new guy that had started work at the store seven months ago. The reserved man that was looking for somewhere to stay. The good friend that meant as much to him as his own family. An alleged murderer.
He only noticed the tears when Mya wiped them from his eyes.
Time passed. Every second felt like happiness was being drained from around him. He doubted he would ever feel happy again. All he felt was fear and his heart beating rapidly.
Suddenly, deafening sirens began blaring and bright lights flashed menacingly.
Screams. There were screams. He couldn’t see a thing and he clutched Mya as if she were the only thing between themselves and death.
Miraculously, their cell unlocked. Something long, hard and cold wrapped around his waist. He struggled, even as he felt himself be lifted from the ground and held against something edgy and cold. He heard Mya struggle too, but to no avail.
Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.
Air rushed around them as they moved. Screams, thuds, blackness.
Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.
The world flashed painfully with colour as they escaped outside. He couldn't see.
Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.
“Everything will be fine, I’ve got you. You’re safe.”
A familiar, soothing voice. Eddie. It was Eddie. Of course it was Eddie. Who else could carry himself and Mya at the same time?
Except it wasn’t Eddie. For when his vision cleared, he immediately twisted from within the chilling grasp in order to see his best friend’s face.
Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.
Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. boom boom
