primetime emmy award nominee for outstanding supporting actor in a limited series or movie
“The Daily Prophet wrote this horrid paper on my brother’s disappearance and involvement in the Cursed Vaults. They say he went mad and that he up and joined the Dark Lord. Next thing I know, my home is bombarded with howlers and all kinds of terrible letters from victims of the Death Eaters.”
Conan got his hands on a cursed letter and when he opened it, he went flying into the wall and would have had his skull cracked in two if my dad wasn’t there to cast a spell to soften the blow. There was a lot of blood, we had to rush him to St. Mungos.
Seeing his remaining son laying unconscious on that white bed, it was the final straw for father. My mother begged him not to go, he didn’t listen. He went marching into the Daily Prophet’s headquarters and started screaming bloody murder at them for writing that article. In the end, it did him no favors.
He was put under investigation by his own peers back in The Ministry because of that stupid article and was disgraced as an Auror. If he wanted to keep his job, he was going to have to prove his loyalty to them. And so he was forced to spend more time at work rather than grieving with his family.
It’s been years now, and he still spends more time cooped up in his office than he ever did at home. He tells himself he buries himself in his work to keep us safe. But I know he does it because he doesn’t want to admit he’s failed his own family. I know he knows that deep down too.”
“...”
“He was the one that taught me how to swim, did I ever tell you that? Heh, funny enough...He’s the one that makes me feel like I’m constantly drowning...”
The Ryder Family Info (2021)
General Info
The Ryder’s are a pure-blood wizarding family of hunters that originated from America but have long since moved to the British Isles to escape persecution after a member of the family was revealed to be working with the very scourers MACUSA and the family themselves were hunting down. Their family motto is “The Hunt is Ours.”
Early History
The Ryder’s were said to hunt down anything that could make a profit. Dark witches and wizards, crime lords, the aforementioned scourers and all kinds of magical beasts, but most notably dragons.
It's said they created a spell strong enough to take down such a vicious and powerful beast, just as long as you aimed at the right spot. It was for this reason that the family crest is a slayed golden dragon on a green bloodied field with a crow flying above it. But the Ryder family soon found themselves paying the price for hunting down these fantastic beasts.
On what was supposed to be a simple hunting expedition, the entire family ended up being slaughtered by the dragon they’ve been trailing. The only surviving members of the once prestigious and feared family of hunters was one Ophelia Ryder, who only managed to survive the whole ordeal for not even being there in the first place. Having stayed behind because she was pregnant with her second child. Her twin brothers Elijah and Ezekiel Ryder who stayed home to watch over their grandmother and grandfather, and sweet little Calliope Ryder who was too young to go on the hunt.
It was then that the Ryder family swore to never again come in contact with the very beasts that almost managed to wipe them out for good and focused their attention on other prey. This tragedy put shame on the Ryder family name though, after all, they were hunters not the hunted.
People started to question their skills and reliability to get the job done and the Ryder’s could not have that. The remaining members of the family trained intensely to prove that they were still the skilled hunters they've always been for generations. Consequences be damned. It was during this period of time members of the family dabbled in the art of occlumency and legilimency.
It was rumored that the Ryder family did favors for MACUSA back when it was just the original twelve. Favors like tracking down rogue wizards, getting rid of magical beasts and troublesome no-maj’s. It was rumored that the family was even tempted to join the fledgling wizarding government. But a fight broke out between the family, a fight that tore the family in two and was the first instance of in-fighting within the family and the first time they found themselves nearly wiped out. For one of the family members, Adrian Ryder along with his wife and grandchildren were revealed to be working with a group of Scourer’s, The very group of traitorous wizards MACUSA was fighting to wipe out. And Eret Ryder, the head of the family at that time would not stand to have a traitor taint the family name. The fight ended with a bloodied field and a string of dead bodies. Fearing for their safety, the Ryder family fled to Britain and it was there that the family truly prospered.
Recent Events
In present day, the Ryder’s are still feared hunters but with Ervin Ryder’s disappearance, him being rumored to have joined the dark lord and his involvement with the Cursed Vaults, their reputation has been damaged in the eyes of the public and the family has been deemed ‘mad’ by the majority of the Wizarding community in the UK.
finally getting to those comics I wanted to make
Edward actually did this to Eileen in an attempt to calm his daughter’s nerves on having to be far away from home lmao. Don’t worry she didn’t entirely deoend on that vicks bottle when she was sick throughout her entire time at hogwarts, her friends dragged her sorry ass to the infirmary for that
HPHM fanfic WIPs
I’ve actually been writing some fanfics for Eileen’s story as well as some Ryder Family lore for a while now but because of school I haven’t been able to get around to finishing any of them so I thought it would be cool to show you all some sneak peaks so enjoy!
In the Face of Fear chapter 2: of Faceless Strangers and Empty Halls
(The continuation to this fic)
She does not remember how long she has stood in this queue. Hell, she doesn't even remember what she's in line for anyway, not really. Logically she knows it's to get some important documents approved of before carting it off to the next sorry sod who was stupid enough to land themselves in this God forsaken place too. But she honestly couldn't bring herself to care. Politics, desk jobs, rules? She never cared for them really. Not even once.
She hated office work. Tulip had always found it dreadfully boring and the people who actually bothered with the crap even more so. So why did she take one?
The red head found herself racking her brain for answers as she waited oh so painstakingly for the queue to move and for her to be done with all this boring crap and lock herself in her boring little cubicle and bury her head under a shit ton of useless paperwork that, if she were lucky enough would hopefully suffocate her before this job did. But one look ahead of the line was enough for her to discern that it wouldn't be budging any time soon.
Why did she take this job? She hated the Ministry. Hated how suffocating rules and laws were. Sure, some were needed but that did not change the fact that Tulip Karasu did not like being restrained. So why the hell was she here? Working a dreadful job that was sucking the life out of her. Working for dreadful people who knew not the meaning of fun and only the meaning of responsibility, paperwork, and order and snuffing out the flame of good ol' fun chaos before it could really take spark. In a dreadful queue that was far too long to be normal with people and coworkers whose faces she always seemed to forget.
So why? Why here? She saw what this job did to people. How strict it made her parents. How high their expectations of her were and how they wouldn't accept anything less than perfect from their daughter. Despite most of the fog that clouded her tired mind she could still remember it so clearly... The promise she had made to herself so long ago. She had promised herself that she would never work here and would never be like her parents. Not if she could help it.
Did she finally resign to their wishes? Bowed like some obedient little servant and catered to their every whim? Had her fear of what she would do once she left Hogwarts finally override her logic?
Why did schools even do that? Why did the world do that? Telling students to make up their minds on what career to choose from such an early age? Tulip has seen what happened to the people that were unlucky enough to land themselves in a job that sucked the life out of them. She remembers how sometimes the most brilliant of students ended up having their spark extinguished as soon as they left school. Left to reminisce on their glory days and what could have been. The very thought of it made her tighten her hold on the documents in her hands.
Because everybody needs to know what they want to be at an early age. Everybody needs to know their place. They just have to have a place...
It was one of Tulip's greatest fears.
Ending up in a job that gave her zero satisfaction. A job that would end up isolating herself from everyone and everything because nobody wants to be friends with a traitor. A no good friend that turns on the other for their own gain. That's why Merula left-
Tulip was snapped out of her thoughts when she suddenly felt the sharp edges of the stack of documents she was carrying dig annoyingly into her side and moved to adjust them. Checking each one carefully to see if they've been ruined in any shape or form.
The last time she had presented a stack of reports that were ever so slightly crumpled and not properly organized to fit the pencil haired bastards ridiculously high standards she had been given such a withering gaze by her superior that she had felt herself visibly shrink just the tiniest bit. But the want to smack the arrogant sod and prank him mercilessly was stronger.
How she wished she could pull out a heap of dungbombs or any other joke shop product and just reign full chaos upon this hellhole.
She looked up and, to her relief the line had actually moved significantly. In fact, She was only three heads away from being in the front of the line. Huh, that was...Weird.

Edward Tiberius Ryder and Julianna Cassandra Ryder (née Graves).
Decided to tinker with Edward’s and Julianna’s designs since I wasn’t really happy with them. So here’s Eileen’s emotionally unavailable parents.
Edward is the eldest out of his two siblings and was sorted into Hufflepuff and became head boy and prefect during his time there. He works as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic and will occasionally work together with his brother, Magnus Ryder who is a bounty hunter in hunting down dark witches and wizards. Because Edward is the eldest, he’s the one that inherits the family spell book and later on passes it to Eileen since Sheila, his eldest daughter turned it down and chose to become estranged from her family and his oldest son, Jacob disappeared. He’s a strict man who doesn’t enjoy being disobeyed and takes his job as an Auror very seriously and was rather cold and firm when raising his children.
When Jacob disappeared, he moved his family temporarily to America so they could live with his brother and his husband and for his children to spend time with their grandparents since with all the negative media coverage the family was getting because of Jacob’s rumored involvement with the dark lord, it wasn’t safe for them back at Britain at the time. He became obsessed with his work, desperately trying to build his reputation as an Auror back up while fruitlessly searching for his missing son. He rarely ever came home and Eileen was left to struggle to take care of her brother and her grieving mother. Him and Julianna initially married out of convenience rather than out of love. He was a Ryder and she a Graves. They were both pure-bloods so it was expected of them to marry into a good family. They fell in love with each other later on and Edward was devastated seeing her so grief stricken after the loss of their eldest son. Unable to cope and properly comfort his wife nor children, he pulls Eileen aside one day and tells her that because she had both Ryder and Graves blood in her, she couldn’t show weakness and shouldn’t depend on anyone for she would only be disappointed and abandoned in the end. He tearfully laments that he’s not strong enough to be there for her, his son or his wife and asks her to be there for them instead. It’s this event that contributes to Eileen’s strong independence and dislike for cooperating with people along with her inability to be vulnerable to close friends and family. Edward’s set high expectations for Eileen and constantly berates her whenever she does something even remotely wrong. Eileen eventually grows an intense dislike for the Ministry, Aurors and a very complicated relationship with her father. Desperately wanting to make him proud but also wanting him out of her life.
Julianna Cassandra Ryder (née Graves) is a descendant of one of the original twelve of MACUSA and was born and raised in New York City before moving to Britain to study to become a healer and works at St. Mungo’s. She went to school at Ilvermorny and was sorted into Pukwudgie.
Julianna was a smart mouthed but compassionate woman that was just the right amount of strict and nurturing when raising her children up until Jacob’s disappearance. When her eldest son went missing, she fell into a deep grief that she struggled to cope with. Julianna didn’t return to her job for some time and would either be staring off into space or burying her face into another handkerchief, shedding more and more tears for her lost son. She would guilt trip and beg both Eileen and Conan into staying inside the house and not leaver her side. Eileen would often play for her on the guitar or ukulele in an attempt to cheer her up. Desperately wishing for her mother to come back to her. It’s Julianna’s constant begging and guilt tripping that leads Eileen to be disgusted and to lash out violently when people beg her for something or guilt trip her later on in her Hogwarts years. Julianna has now returned to work but is a shell of the vibrant woman she once was and is desperately trying to reconcile with Conan and Elly for her previous behavior.
These two genuinely love their kids but are absolutely horrible at feelings and understanding or helping their kids with theirs. Eileen’s relationship with her parents does become a little healthier later on but the damage had already been done so they never truly become close. She just sorta learns to tolerate them.
Hi yes have the other Ryder siblings
There’s a tradition in the Hunters of Artemis where you are given a necklace and the number of arrows around that necklace is the number of dark wizards you have successfully hunted down. Magnus currently has about 38 arrows around his neck.
I’ll be sure to draw more on the Ryder family in the future and finally get to drawing plot relevant art : /
also, I forgot to mention golden eyes are a defining trait of the Ryder family.
