thinking about the cranefly just hangin’ around where it is got me thinking about the other things i’m afraid of.

Nothing comes close to the Fear of those spindly demons, but a lot of things are Inconvenient:

escalators. it can take me a few seconds of hesitating before I step onto them, and then I like, have to cling to the hand hold thing, and lean forwards really far if going up. why this, they have done nothing wrong to me ever, and they help me out a lot.

actually stairs in general. if i’m standing stationary on a stair i need to hold a rail or I get vertigo. i try to keep moving on them.

heights, i guess? kinda a standard thing. I love looking at views from high up but only if there is a Safe Gap between me and the edge. Glass doesn’t count don’t even think about putting me on a glass floor (unless it’s on a boat). Also rollercoasters that go Too High and/or upside-down are N-O-let’s-not-go.

I get Very Stressed at one particular hill turn on a road near where my grandparents live because it’s like, practically a 180 turn up, like, a 20 degree slope at least. just. that one particular hill. I hate it.

generally small, moving things. flying insects tend to make me jump because it Could Be A Cranefl- oh nevermind. and anything scurrying across the ground? touching my feet is Illegal, I don’t care how cute that shrew is I’m going to yelp and leap away dramatically

wasps though. if one starts to check me out i have and will run about half a mile to escape because that one kept following me damn it no you can’t have my ice-cream. also I’ve never been stung by a bee or a wasp and I don’t know if I’m allergic or not. my mum has a slight allergy and honestly i’m not keen to experiment. not going to squash ‘em though those gals are Just Trying Their Best.

stinging nettles. you’d be surprised by how often this is an issue. I mean, not wanting to be stung is a fairly reasonable thing, but I fell out of a hammock and into a patch of nettles when I was a kid (why was there a hammock above a nettle patch???? i don’t know) so nettles put me on Extra High Alert. I’ve done a lot of nettle-prompted swerving into people, oops.
