Efa Chittock grew up to be pretty alright, all things considered. Despite her absent mother, her father and sister were all the family she needed, and she lived a sheltered life until she entered Hogwarts. There was where she discovered what being half-Veela really meant – and how she would have to try her best to repress that part of herself, if she wanted to stay safe. As a good Slytherin, of course, it was bite or get bitten. The charm and charisma that she flaunted as a child quickly turned into unwanted attention from her peers the second that hormones came into play. Everyone thought she was spoiled to complain, a rebel without a cause, but they didn’t know what it was like, to receive all these looks from people she had no interest in, people she didn’t like. She had all the attention she could possibly want, but loneliness still stung. Learning to be part Veela was learning to handle the harassment that came with it, and that was a hard lesson to learn.
School had been hell for Efa, but now she’s finally starting to get more comfortable. She worked hard to perfect her abilities to the point where her Veela charm is mostly controlled nowadays, and it makes her feel more confident than ever; she knows when she can, and should, display it around freely. That doesn’t mean all the past years haven’t left a bitter taste in her mouth. Now that she graduated Hogwarts, she wants to make sure people understand and listen to her side of things, too. Her people are still harassed every day, she’s not letting anyone forget that. These days, she can easily be found trying to organize marches and protests for half-breed rights, even if most of them fall through. She snuck her way into the Order as soon as she heard rumours of a resistance group existing at all, and she’s ready to give everything to fight this war. She believes in the group, she trusts her peers and she’s got her boots laced up and ready. Finally, she’s making the difference she wants to make in the world, right?
ALARIC MCKINNON. It’s not a secret that Alaric doesn’t approve of the werewolves in the forest. Efa had heard that prior to meeting him - a warning, really - and had expected that to extend to her, as well. After all, she’s a half-breed, too. But when he was pretty kind to her, she came to realize that it’s just wolves he doesn’t like. Apparently, “her kind” are the exception. She’s not sure how to feel about that herself, but at least she’s not on his bad side!
ARTEM TREMBLAY. Efa likes Artem, they just don’t get along too well. If you ask her, that’s simply by chance of faith – there’s no rule saying that same half-breeds are supposed to like each other, anyway. The truth is that he reminds her of how she should be, in her eyes. Artem is bold, strong, and he defies all veela expectations effortlessly, while she’s still stumbling around through that same field like a newborn fawn. In return, he also isn’t too fond of the underlying optimism in her loud calls for equality, so the two have a very arm’s-length acquaintanceship.
MADDY WARREN. When Efa agreed to join the Slug Club, she didn’t think it would be her thing at all; he was likely only driven to invite her because of the veela charm. She had only gone to the first meeting with the intent of telling them she would not be going again and never expected to make a friend there – and to actually want to stay. Maddy is an interesting presence in her life. She’s well aware the girl hates some of her friends (namely one Dorcas Meadowes), but her and Efa used to get along swimmingly well, as long as they both avoided remembering that.
