Another redesign, and another subspecies!
Did you know that Shindoros had a subspecies? I made a post about it several months back, but I will update its info here (as well as the normal species). Its subspecies, the Undead Shindoros, has formed a parasitic relationship with Effluvium in such a way that its mind and behavior have been altered by it.
Do you like them? Do you want to know anything specific about them or any other monster I made? Let me know! I’d be more than happy to answer!
But anyways, here’s more info:
Common Species
Name: Shindoros
Nickname: “Toxic Reaper Wyvern”
Classification: Flying Wyvern
Location: Rotten Vale, Ancient Forest, Coral Highlands, Wildspire Waste
Element(s): N/A
Ailments: Poison, Defense Down, Sickness
Weakness: Fire
Resistances: Water
Immunities: N/A
More Info: Shindoros are scavenging Flying Wyverns commonly found in the Rotten Vale. While commonly found there, they can be found anywhere there is a dead or dying monster. They will find dying monsters and follow them, looming over them, waiting for death to take them. Only then will the wyvern feast. No monster is to large or fearsome during their last hours for the wyvern to stalk. Because of their scavenging nature, they are generally peaceful to the living and are important in aiding the decomposition process in many ecosystems. This does not mean, however, that the Shindoros is not fully capable of defending itself.
Powerful claw swipes, tail swipes, and bite attacks aside, the Shindoros has two signature attacks. They are known to belch black bile onto their enemies and their surrounding area. The bile is highly corrosive, having the capacity to burn through hide and even some armor. This will give hunters a defense debuff. Its other ability is a bit more complex. The Shindoros’ mane gets its reddish hue from “carrion powder”. This is a toxic, reddish dust made when the monster rolls around in monster carcasses. The debris will mix with its own natural dander to create carrion powder. All this serves as a dangerous defensive purpose. It will rigorously scatter it about in an attempt to get its foes to inhale or ingest it. Hunters have reported being inflicted with poison after short exposure. Prolonged exposure causes hunters to acquire a “sickness” blight, causing gagging and crippling pain...
Subspecies
Name: Undead Shindoros
NIckname: “Toxic Zombie Wyvern”
Classification: Flying Wyvern
Location: Hoarfrost Reach, Rotten Vale
Element(s): N/A
Ailments: Effluvia, Bleeding
Weaknesses: Fire, Dragon
Resistances: Ice, Water
Immunities: Sleep
More Info: The Undead Shindoros is more terrifying than even what its name may suggest. This wyvern has formed a parasitic symbiosis with Effluvium. The Effluvium has invaded the Shindoros’ brain, nervous system, circulatory sytem and even its digestive system. This monster is no longer a scavenger; the Effluvium influences this monster to hunt for live prey. This is very curious behavior, because this wyvern does not eat. Instead, the Effluvium will feed on the fresh kill and bring the nutrients back to the host’s body. In this way, the Undead Shindoros is sustained. It must hunt often, as this symbiosis does not provide it with much nutrition. It will die if it’s not constantly on the prowl.
Because of all this, the Undead Shindoros is considered very dangerous and should not be approached if you aren’t prepared to kill it. It doesn’t rely on elemental blights as much as its scavenging counterpart. Instead, it prefers to use its higher physical strength and speed, stronger wings, and sharper claws. Constant sharpening of its claws allows it to easily cut through tough hide and armor, causing heavy bleeding. It prefers to use Effluvium only for eating, but it will scatter it when in a pinch. While it is no master of the miasma, unlike Vaal Hazak, the Effluvium is still just as deadly....
“ The magnetic currents common to snowstorms hastened the destruction of the rigging. It broke as much from the effect of effluvium as the violence of the wind.”
