Bryke: so we want the main character yet aang to end up with katara y’know like friends to lovers, he has a crush at the beginning but it eventually turns into something more

The Ehaszes (and a bunch of other writers) : ...ok so what we’re hearing is write parallel arcs between katara and zuko and have them have some of the most intimate moments in the series, as well as make sure that they are the two characters who ‘understand each other the most’, also have the whole arc of season 2 revolve around aang and his attachment to katara being a bad thing, have katara act more like mother figure to aang, and have seasons 3/4 revolve around Aang letting go of his attachment to katara and Zuko letting go of his attachment to his father, while also giving more sweet fluff between katara and zuko

Bryke: ok yeah no there’s not going to be a season 4

The Ehaszes: end season 3 with a heart to heart with zuko and katara that foreshadows a lil sum sum with them?

Bryke: ok we’re going to start over, tell us when we lose you

What bothers me more than ships is that we were robbed of a real resolution to ATLA, specifically the war and how the themes of interconnection, harmony and balance relates to the 4 nations. 

The comics handled this horribly and we’re left to wonder exactly how the Fire Nation is going to reform itself in a sustainable manner, how its going to pay reparations to the other nations. Shoving Ozai and Azula in captivity isn't enough because imperialism is systematic and extends beyond two individuals. Who’s to say retcon-paranoid!Zuko and Mai (who didn't have any if at all character growth...? ) wouldn't, even unintentionally, perpetuate their ancestors’ regime?

What Ehasz had planned would've made a full-circle conclusion, giving the story time to explicate exactly what peaceful co-existance and cultural sharing looks like (which i think children tv desperately needs). The Sun Warriors episode introduced a depth to the Fire Nation’s history---that firebending isn't inherently evil and its related culture originally  emphasised pacifism (fire as life rather than a show of discipline and power) which firebenders in their imperial greed later detached themselves from. 

And from there, with the hidden airbenders, we could've gone into greater depth in repairing the relations between Air Nomads and Fire Nation while paralleling it with Zuko and Aang’s friendship. We could put emphasis on how fire is dependent on air to ignite, not to mention throw out the toxic pile of waste that is the air acolytes and The Tenzin Favourtism and then show how the  Air Nomad refugees/diaspora could grow into present-day culture.

And i mean who doesn’t want Toph to have completed the awkwardly half-assed character arc? Iroh’s mysterious travels into the spirit world?

also i wanted more Suki. And a decent plot abt ursa. and just platonic friendships??? i hate the over-emphasis on romance sometimes bc its so damn possessive...

Since Zutara is being discussed, I thought it might be apt to look around and take a guess at who the Ehaszs might have been shipping Aang with...

And there’s some pretty compelling evidence (ImO) that Taang was their endgame.

Bryan on the supposed S4 of ATLA. He reiterates 3 seasons was the original plan and states he would never have been interested in S4. Bryan states that the notion that a fourth season was discarded because of the movie, something claimed by Aaron Ehasz, is false.
