This also more-or-less confirms that right now the plan for the live-action series is to stop at the same place as the animated series: Sozin's Comet and the immediate aftermath. But obviously who knows what that will look like when they get there.

He also teases another animated series veeeery vaguely, saying "if and when" they make one, etc etc. "If" means nothing is confirmed or planned in any way right now, but following it up with "when" does seem a bit optimistic at least! I still think it's an inevitability as the franchise grows.

I'm glad Bryan made this post, and what he said doesn't surprise me. 

That being said I don't think one can fault people for thinking those things were true based on what Ehasz has said in the AMA and tweets. He has verifiably claimed such things, so its not simply a matter of people believing anything they read on the internet.

Bryan on the supposed S4 of ATLA. He reiterates 3 seasons was the original plan and states he would never have been interested in S4. Bryan states that the notion that a fourth season was discarded because of the movie, something claimed by Aaron Ehasz, is false.

Hello! I saw on your sidebar you put Live Action ATLA: 2020. Is that the estimated release date (since the rest of the sidebars' dates are release dates)? But afaik Bryke also said that they just gonna start casting in early 2020, so is it plausible for a 2020 release? Thank you!

Ah that’s outdated, I put 2020 when the show was announced in 2018 but now it’s looking more like 2021. I’ll update it but it’ll still just be an unofficial estimate.

Also, they never said they’re gonna start casting in 2020. The last update we got was on January 3rd 2019 when they said that open casting would start “likely sometime later this year” (meaning 2019), but clearly even that was an underestimation.

So CBS and Viacom merger has been finalized, the company is now ViacomCBS. So what's your opinion on this merger and do you think it will have an effect on the ATLA and TLOK franchises?

I don’t think it changes much at the moment, like CBS joining isn’t really relevant to the Avatar franchise. I guess since they now have Simon & Schuster that could be who publishes future Avatar novels but that’s the only thing I can kind of think of.

It’ll be more interesting to see what moves they make on the streaming front. They seem to be investing a lot in Netflix so chances are they just keep that partnership going or potentially buy Netflix, but they could also try to make their own major streaming service (they already have a handful but none of them are successful). If they make their own then Avatar stuff will probably be there but awkwardly the biggest thing, the live-action series, will be on Netflix lol. I don’t think they’ll try that though, they probably know they don’t have the brand power of the other conglomerates. I think it’s just down to whether they continue partnering with Netflix or just straight up buy it.

CBS All Access certainly isn’t as popular a streaming service as Netflix but I think its decently successful. I don’t know how likely it is for them to produce new avatar content as CBS All Access originals, but its plausible they may add ATLA and LoK its library. After the merger there were news reports stating that some Nickelodeon Content would be added to CBS All Access to help diversify the platform.  While it may seem odd, Netflix producing the live action remake will obviously bring a lot of attention to the avatar franchise which in turn will lead to people wanting to watch or re-watch the animated shows. Which in turn could lead to people buying the DVDs or a digital copy on iTunes.....or subscribing to whatever streaming service its on, which again could be CBS All Access.  Of course ATLA/LoK is on Netflix in some countries, but it isn’t in the US which is the only country CBS All Access is currently available in anyway.

She doesn't have any imdb credits outside of atla.  According to one of the women who accused Aaron of workplace misconduct, specifically Diandra who worked under him just at Riot games, Elizabeth and Aaron Ehasz divorced some time ago. Which could be a reason why she didn’t work with him on TDP.

I have a story line related question: in Zuko Alone, it is said that Fire Lord Azulon reigned for 23 years. Taking into consideration that Sozin reigned for another 20 years (max) after the appearance of Sozin's Comet and that Ozai reigned for about five years after Azulon's death, how does this add up to a 100 Years War? Shouldn't it be at last "only" 53 years of war?

I don’t remember it saying 23 years in Zuko Alone, but it is a fact that firelord Sozin ruled for a while after the genocide, Azula mentioned him being ancient when he died. I feel like it’s safe to assume Sozin and Roku are about 75-80 when Roku dies, and with Bumi being 112 it wouldn’t rlly surprise me that Sozin ruled for another 20-30 something years after that. Azulon was the next firelord, but obviously we don’t know how old he was when he became firelord. For all we know Sozin got his first child at a pretty old age. Let’s say Azulon was maybe 30-40 when he became firelord. Maybe you misheard his time of rule, or maybe if you watched a dub in a different language the numbers translated wrong, or it was a fuck up in subtitles. But the war did last 100 years since Sozin’s comet naturally only appears in the sky around this earth every 100 years.

Could have also just been a flaw in timing by the creators? They have made a weird time decision before when Azula found Suki by tracking Appa, AFTER already knowing the Avatar was in Ba Sing Se and the whole drill fiasco. Either way I need to rewatch that episode to find out.

According to the wikia Sozin was 102 when he died.

And Azulon died at the age of 95 AG. He was born 0 AG, which indicates he was born the same year as the genocide begun.

95 AG he dies, Ozai ascends the throne and Ozai only ruled for 5 years. Sozin dies 20 years after the Air Nomad genocide. 20 AG Azulon takes the throne. It makes it 100 years but there’s an error to the script.

The Sage on Azulon’s funeral says 23 years of reign but you can’t get 23 years from 20 AG to 95 AG. So the 100 year war is correct but they misspoke in the script. Should be 75 years and not 23.

Not sure if you have gotten an answer yet, but the issue stems from Mike and Bryan not originally planning for Sozin to be Roku’s contemporary. Thus Zuko Alone was written with the idea that Sozin ruled for most of the war and Azulon didn't rule that long. When it was later decided to make Sozin the same age as Roku, well that means Sozin would have already been elderly more than a decade before the war. While the Avatar universe did already have Kyoshi and Pathik, Bryke opted to not have Sozin be THAT insanely old.  The updated numbers that reflect the retcon to Azulon’s reign come from an interview with Avatar Spirit done after the airing of season 3A.

I finished watching the eighth and final season of Voltron: Legendary Defender. I thought this was a very engaging watch and one of the better seasons of the show, building upon the themes and past plot lines, and using the main and supporting cast very effectively. It was action packed, emotional, and had some neat twists Each episode felt like it served a purpose and there were some creative moments. It feels like the characters, world(s), and lore in general are very much alive and have been diligently built. I do have some issues: I think some of the villains could have been used better, a few lines/moments did get a bit cheesy, and some moments in the finale I won't spoil could have been handled better. At the same time the finale does let us relish in the characters, and how much they and their bonds have grown, and I do genuinely feel as though I will miss them. Some aspects of the finale may be divisive among the fandom but I quite liked it regardless. Overall Voltron, while not perfect, is a great action cartoon that was an exciting journey lead by likeable characters and ended strong. I've talked about, since this shows announcement, how its somewhat of a spiritual successor to ATLA & LoK, and while I don't think its as good as either of those shows, it more than successfully carries on their legacy.

On This Day in Avatar....Korra felt alone. This is definitely one of the more powerful episodes of the series, chronicling Korra's journey over the past three years as she attempts to recover from her physical and mental scars. This episode is Janet Varney's favorite episode, as well as one of Michael Dante DiMartino's favorites to write. It was also the People's Choice Winner for "Best Television Episode" in IGN's Best of 2014 for television. As someone who this episode hits close to home for, I also appreciate how it shows the feelings of those around Korra. What did you guys think of "Korra Alone" and what were your favorite moments from this episode?

I just wanted to share some early designs of mako and bolin I saw pop-up in my feed. Having this new live-action show announced and seeing the hype and discussion around it brings me back to the wait for LoK from its announcement in summer 2010, through 2011 (when I became involved in the online fandom) and early 2012 before it premiered in March. Regardless of how the show turns out, and whether or not this is your first or second time, I'm honestly excited and honored to be where I am on this journey with you guys.

Wow, pretty crazy to see Aaron Ehasz confirm that a lot of the “interviews” with him about Avatar Book 4 were flat out fake.

Hopefully we will see less and less people bringing that stuff up going forward.

I have been in a few too many discussions with Zutara fans where said interviews have been used as a primary discussion point for why Zutara was meant to happen if not for Mike and Bryan “Forcing” Kataang. Nice to now be able to respond now and say that those interviews were made up.

We’ve gotten nothing confirmed yet, but we know that it will come eventually. There’s a lot of theory over who could be the rep, a lot of fans saw the conversations between king Harrow and Viren alluded to a past romance, General Amaya definitely gave off some strong wlw vibes, and at the end credits of one of the episodes, a moon shadow elf is pictured making two amulets, one Runaan wears. And in another end credits scene, the elf is shown wearing one and crying. Someone asked the dragon prince page on tumblr if he had a name, and they said yes. Making us think that he could be Runaan’s boyfriend/husband since he’s significant enough to have a name. In the one scene where Runaan is in the dungeon and his shirt is off, he had some scars that looked like top surgery scars, but some trans men came forward and said that top scars don’t look like that. So trans Runaan is more of a headcanon at the moment, although it would be cool if it could happen in the show. 

Aaron Ehasz co-worked on LOK, the show that gave us probably the first lgbt rep in cartoons, so I trust him to handle the rep responsibly and without baiting and treating the audience without respect.

Isnt that explained in the Sozin/Roku backstory ep? iirc Sozin was like “yo we are having a good time in the fire nation everywhere should be the fire nation so they can all have a good time” and roku was like “wtf no invading other countries isnt good for them” and sozin was like “well as soon as you die and that comet comes im doing it anyway, YOLO”

He attacked the air nomads because he knew that only the avatar could stop him, and that the next avatar would be born an air nomad.  “I knew the next Avatar would be born an Air Nomad. So I wiped out the Air Temples.“ In his mind it was means to an end, a genocide but nothing personal.

I have to assume he was hoping for (what in his mind would be the best case scenario) the new avatar would go into the avatar state and be killed while in it, forever ending the cycle. If the avatar just died regularly, they would be reborn, but it would give the Fire Nation years to begin fighting the earth kingdom without having to worry about an avatar. Additionally the raids on the SWT waterbenders, and the attack on the NWT (probably not a coincidence it was 15 years after the war began) probably originated in an attempt to deal with a possible water tribe avatar. 

As to why they didn’t use the land of the air temples, probably a combination of being hard to reach, perhaps being harder to sustain, it just being more convenient (especially after a certain point) to colonize earth kingdom land that would serve the same strategic purpose (with the exception of the eastern air temple, all the air temples are close to western earth kingdom land). Maybe Sozin or someone didn’t see the point in occupying land where they didn't rule over more people. Of course this is just speculation, its possible the fire nation did have outposts in some of the air temples and just got rid of them before the series started.
